And no its not this Bacon thread
    [IMG]

Im talking about the pork product. Also thanks to the forum that deleted a bunch of text before I posted it.

Lets talk about the best bacon you have ate, what you eat with your bacon, dishes served with bacon in it, how you cook your bacon, etc.

This is the place to nerd out on bacon.

So as far as best bacon, at least that I've found in the grocery is Hormel Black Label Applewood smoked bacon. It was buy one get one free at publix a while ago, I stocked up. Definitely a notch above store brand or standard Oscar Meyer bacon.

As far as cooking bacon, I used to fry it, until I figured out that baking it cooks it better and makes less of a mess. So what I do is take a cookie sheet, line it with aluminum foil, place a baking rack/cooling rack above the foil lined pan, place raw bacon on rack, insert into oven at 400. I don't even bother to preheat the oven. Check bacon after 11-12 minutes, keep an eye on it until it is done to your desired crispyness. The baking rack I'm talking about is one of these things, not sure of the exact term . . .

First, I'm severely disappointed in this forum for not already having a bacon thread (providing that OP did a bacon thread search before posting)

Second, a Slater's 50/50 opened up near me a few weeks ago. I went last week. The patty is half bacon. The ketchup? It has bacon in it. Pretty damn good.

Third, how big of a tire can I fit on my Tundra without a lift? :D

We use parchment paper on a cookie sheet to bake it in the oven, leave the paper overhang the pan a little bit and it makes clean-up so easy. We don’t use a rack with the paper. So much better than in a pan.

Was in Vegas recently, at the big buffet in Caesars. By the Prime Rib they had a slab of Bacon, looked to be broiled. I had never seen before, the server sliced a piece off along with the PR. It was effing awesome! Went back for two more servings.
I need to look for a slab and cook at home.

It may have been Pork belly, they were calling it Slab Bacon. It looked to me like the thicker cut bacon at the grocery store (plastic wrapped) rectangular in shape but not sliced. Sliced it as they served....

Brined and smoked pork belly = bacon, whether it’s sliced after smoking like most or cooked in a slab it’s still the same thing - AWESOME! LOL

Lots of lower quality commercial bacon isn’t ever smoked though, just liquid smoke in the brine.
