2012 Tundra 4 wheel drive problems after leveling kit

    I need some help.... I installed a 2.5 in leveling kit on my truck and didn't do the diff drop. I now have a popping sound coming from the front end when I select 4wd. Any body out there??? Do I just need to do the diff drop?

    You need to try to set the cv axle bearing back correctly. You may have pulled it out when doing the lift. Figure out which side is popping and pull the stearing, sway bar, lower shock mount and lca apart and play around with the cv to get it back together correctly.

    Thank you for such a quick reply... So when I was doing the lift I noticed when I was putting it all back together, it wouldn't go back without me spinning the actual rotor about a quarter turn to get the angle I needed. It all seemed to have popped into place just fine... So do you think I need to do that again?

    That's what I'm thinking unless you have done damage to the CB joint already.

    How would I know if it is damaged? It's not leaking or anything yet

    I pulled both sides off and made sure the were turning correctly. I noticed the passenger side was slightly hanging up. Pulled the CV out so I could adjust it and it's still doing the same thing. I don't know what to do... Anyone wanna buy this truck from me? Just kidding! Let me know if you have any other ideas. I'm thinking the passenger side CV is trashed

    see my post klunking sound in front end. i had the same thing on my drivers side when i did mine, i put in a after market cv drive shaft and all is good now. when i opened up the old cv boot i found that the snap ring came apart and the roller ball bearings fell out, you can rebuild the cv drive shaft, probable cause is that you over extended the drive shaft same as i did when i did my 2.5

    I didn't find the post.. I'm just going to buy a new CV for that side one of my friends told me it had to be the CV.... So glad it's not the diff! Thanks man

    Maybe these trucks are just problem children. I had a Tacoma and that thing was friggin bulletproof

    you can open up the cv boot repack the bearings install the snap ring greaser up put the boot back on with a large hose clamp or v band if you have the tools and keep for a spare, thats what im going to do

    I replaced my cv axles on my Tacoma from a place called "cvj axles" in denver. Reasonable price with exchange of core.

    TRD wheels, Dicoverer AT3's, pop-lock tailgate, 6112/5100 Bilsteins, Leer shell (lock wired to tailgate), Bedrug, GPS mod,
    there are posts in other threads about the front swaybar causing noise after a lift. Not likely to have a swaybar on 4WD but do you have one?

    Sway bars are on the front on all Tundras 2WD and 4WD. Its and independent suspension thing.
