Just bought a 2003 First Gen Access Cab. Fortunately ... no real problems to deal with except problem pumping gas ... where the pump shuts off unless gas is being put in at a glacially slow rate. I'm somewhat familiar with problem solving this issue ... but I was hoping some first gen owners could point me to the most likely cause and where to start my efforts. Thanks in advance.

A clogged charcoal canister is the first thing that comes to mind.

I was told if you replace the filler neck to a modern style, it will not click off prematurely. I just insert; lock the lever; and hold the handle up a little for a better angle. I fuel up that way with high speed pumps and no probs. The safety shut off functions properly when I do it.

If you don’t want to hold the pump at all this is not your solution. Good Luck

On my 3rd flux capacitor. They just don't make 'em like they youstacould! Shoulda went OEM
Mine was doing the same thing. I took the neck off and found one of those pull tabs from a can of seafoam sitting on the screen filter at the bottom of the filler neck where it attaches to the tank. still does it sometimes just maybe not as bad. probably because i just left it in there though.

Owned mine for 14 years. Just have to pull the pump handle out a little and pour it in slower. My 2017 does the same.

    This^^^^

Owned mine since 02’ and thats how its done. Start with a click, then pull nozzle back a 1/2” while triggering the gas nozzle, then set it down and let it fill.
