In another thread I post that a G19 was on its way. I am trying to simplify weapon systems and really am not one to hold on to something that isn't being used.

To sell the 1911 or hold on to it?

I'd hold onto it, but my opinion is a bit jaded being a 1911 fan.

Yeah, I hear you. I do have a lot of ammo, IWB holster, 8+ magazines....etc. Maybe I will re-finish the pistol and make it a show piece. LOL

I sold all of mine because its two completly systems and the possiblty of Acc. discharge increases.

Well, there probably is little chance of that when carrying any of my weapons, but anything could happen I guess.

    At home, I don't go for a 9 or .45.

I only run NATO rounds for that reason alone.

If you want a big ol .45, I'd recommend the XDS 3.3. I carry it in a Galco IWB at 4 o'clock, and sometimes I forget it's even there. It's light, and the I actually enjoy shooting it as much as my 1911 and full size Glock. And you can't go wrong with Springfield quality.

What size are you looking for? Micro, sub compact, compact?
    Capacity?
Simplicity vs manual safeties? (My safety is my trigger finger, unless we are talking 1911s)
    Caliber?
How do you plan on concealing? How is your wardrobe set up?

I'm in the process of switching from a 1911 to a G19 Gen 4 for a variety of reasons:

Weight: if whatever gun you choose is heavy and uncomfortable, you're not going to carry it.
Capacity: having 16 rounds is nice.
Caliber: I struggled with this for many years. I felt one needs a huge round to stop anything. Talking to some of my Special Forces Diver buddies, most carry a 9mm. (Disclaimer: they also don't fight with a 9mm most times either, so your probably not lugging an m4 around either)
Now for me, I am just trying to slow or make the threat change what they are doing and allow for escape. Now a 9mm is a follow up round in my opinion, and two slugs center of mass is not going to be good for anyone.

As of late, I have been carrying a Sig P938, and I often forget it is there. Using underwear that has a holster built into them.

Do you have access to a shooting club or range that rents weapons? Maybe someone in the area that can lone out a Shield to you. The M&P Shield is an excellent choice in my opinion if you shoot it well and it is comfortable.

Only reason I ask is some of these slim design weapons just blow ass to shoot, others are just awesome. I really don't like Glocks in the past due to size, but the new 4th generation weapons I really like and shoot it well. After 50 rounds of my buddies, I ordered one on the spot from him. Best 529.00 I have spent in a while.

My wife's carry weapon is a Sig 938. She likes it and does pretty good with it. I shoot it good too, however I really do not like it. It also has an external safety. The reason I am getting away from the external safeties is speed and one less thing to mess up in the heat of a battle. For a new gun owner, might not be a bad idea.

Ron let me know your thoughts on the s&w shield 9mm. Me and the wife are going to get our cc too. She shot our friends colt pocket lite and really liked it. Thanks

Reading through this thread really gives me the gun buying itch. Too bad I'll likely have to wait till June-July to make my next purchase...:(

Really liking my new Ruger LC9s Pro. Shoots nice and pocket carries easily. It's become part of my EDC.

Yes they are. I've got 3 others (P95, Vaquero, AR556) but this is the only one I carry. I've also got a Walther PPS I carry but this little Ruger is slowly taking its place.

Went to a friend and local gunsmith and ffl to pick up my Canik TP9/V2 and when he went to call it in, was told more investigation was needed. Meanwhile I'm licking my chops at this 9 mm and left with nothing. He said he's never had that problem with any customers. So here's my question- Will having a security clearance delay my purchase, cause honestly I would think it would not. I have never had any felonies, lol or dui. Nothing! Help!!!!!

Weird, you would think a security clearance would only help you out considering what you have to go through to get that.
