Yeah, the lift isn’t to fit larger tires as I’m going with the tire and rim set up on the current Tacoma TRD Pro. I’m assuming the lift will also help level out the stance a bit and that the upgraded shocks will provide a better ride overall. I was just wondering, because the lift is so minimal, would uniball UCA’s give any noticeable benefits?

If you’re sticking with 1” max, uniball uca’s would be overkill. I could be completely wrong but I believe TC and Camburg uniballs work best with 2-3” lifts to correct the alignment and increase travel. I would stick with stock or SPC uca’s.

Here are some pictures of the new whip. It was previously owned by my grandfather and he used it as a fishing truck. Needs a good cleaning. Let me know if you guys see anything particular as I’m not too familiar with these trucks.

The engine sounds loud to me. Very clear mechanical “clicking”. I have a video on my phone but don’t know how to upload. It also has a strange tire size 235/85.

I'm running Bilsteins 5100s on all four corners. Middle adjustment on the front per recommendation from the manufacturer.
To provide you with an answer - my guess is that when the truck is lifted and being 4x4 the front half shafts would bind and rub on the lower control arm and full droop. Also, when the suspension is cycling I think there is an alignment issue with the half shafts and may allow them to pop out/ damage itself.

I have just over 1000 miles on my truck now and I have not had a single suspension issue. (The ball joints looked great when I took it apart so I left them be). I would recommend the 5100s to anyone who wants a solid performing D.D. and a comfortable feel offroad.

Check out my build and see if that will help with any other questions!

Welcome. And loud ticking could be the infamous hard to locate exhaust manifold leak on rear drivers side manifold.

Looks good. Your ticking could be those heat shields clamps that rusted at your exhaust pipe turns, as well. See my repair pics above. Try running a few tank fulls of premium gas and/or add some gas treatment. Clean up the insides and she may quiet down a bit. Oil 5w-30 and new filter. Start with the easy and work from there.

It was my grandfathers. He used it just to tow his boat. He bought it in 2008ish with 5000ish miles on it. The previous owner had done all the aftermarket. Now I’m just going to take it all off! The last oil change was in December 2016 and I don’t think it’s been driven since.

Definitely an oil change then, I recommend running 4x4 a little and then changing the fluids and then running it a little bit more.

I was wondering what people recommend in buying a truck that hasn’t been driven much? Like I said the truck was mantained regularly, but probably hasn’t been driven in two years. The fluids are clean and topped off. I’m assuming the truck didn’t see 4wheel drive that often if at all.
