I'm in the process of getting my LTC. I have completed the course and am waiting for the License to arrive. I am proficient in the handling of Firearms as they have been part of my life style for over 50 years. I would like to have Honest opinions on a Holster for a Compact medium frame HG. Don't want to get into a Brand war, just want to know what works for you and why. I'm a heavy guy so that will limit me to some styles that may tend to be uncomfortable. The whole idea is for me to be able to Carry Everyday, so comfort and function will be key. I have looked at many options on the YouTube channel.... and now am more undecided that ever. I do have a modest budget to consider also.

Thanks my Tundra Brothers and Sisters.

Purses suck. And given that clothes are different for women as well as our bodies.... "a holster" doesn't help....

Best advice I could offer is, if you have a good gun shop that has a selection; go down and ask them if you can test fit a few to find what fits you best. Different materials and backings will all vary in comfort based on where you're carrying...from 12 - 4 (assuming you're right handed).
If it's not already been advised, I would never recommend anything that's LBC (from 4-8).

Unfortunately there are No good gun shops left in Texarkana. We have bunch of Pawn shops and Academy. The gun shows that come to town are hit and miss for Decent prices on thier stuff.

Academy should carry a few options??
IMO, if you're going to carry from 12-2 (in front of the hip plate), the slimmer the better. If you're going to carry 3-4, you may be better with something with a curved profile and back-padding.

So are you thinking IWB or OWB? Want to be Concealed as best I can. If thinking maybe a OWB Paddle type may be more versatile , but may not be as concealable as an IWB.

Generally, IWB is going to be more concealed. But it all depends on your attire. If you're in tight clothes, shirt tucked in, you're going to print. You can go OWB and have loose clothing.
Here's a couple different styles. Travis goes through techniques at min, 7:00 in second vid. If in a situation where I need to draw, it should be fast and unimpeded.

I own several holsters that don't get used anymore because of my tulster. It's simple and doesn't bother me while I'm wearing it.

My brother lives in TX and just asked me the same question a couple days ago. I've carried a handgun for the past 14 years and I've owned virtually every type of holster. Here is my advice...
I've never had a comfortable IWB holster. I've tried them all and I am fairly thin. I've settled on Yaqui and OWB paddle holsters. Yaqui rides a little higher and is less bulky. Paddle holsters are nice because you don't have to worry about putting your belt through it (just grab and go). Whatever holster you go with, practice drawing from all different positions (standing up, seated in your vehicle, lying on your back, etc.) Getting your weapon on target should just be a matter of muscle memory.

Edit: Sorry. After reading your post again I see that you have plenty of experience and probably don't need that last part. I chose to leave it though in case it might be beneficial to someone just entering the world of firearms.

Mexican carry? Do you have something that is covering the trigger?

Ive recently become a fan of alien gear holsters for IWB carrying. Cheap, adjustable, comfortable, and the best part is you can order different "shells" for different weapons and use the same backing plate.

This probably won't help much but it is the same answer I got years ago when I got my LTC. You need to try a bunch of different ones and find the one that works the best and is most comfortable for you. Definitely listen to suggestions so you know all the brands to look at and try. There are a lot of good brands but all fit differently on different people.

This ^^. If you know people with different holsters ask to try them on. You'll know pretty quick if you like a particular style or not. Leather, kydex or a hybrid, a particular degree of cant, what type of belt attachment, these all make a difference. I own several and have sold or given away several others in my quest for the "right" holster. I'm also a believer in 'you get what you pay for'. Cheap holsters are just that...cheap. The one I'm happiest with is a DARA kydex, 30 degree cant, SOB, palm in holster. It's extremely comfortable. I also have a custom PJ Holster in kydex, also very comfortable but I like my DARA better. In leather I have a custom Bear Creek horse hide IWB. It's an excellent holster, very comfortable, warmer than kydex but also bulkier than kydex. Coincidentally, Bear Creek Leather is in New Braunfels. I
have a Wright Leather works as well. It's a beautiful holster but I'm still not sure I like it. Leather I usually only use in winter.
One more thing to consider for comfort and better concealment is an actual gun belt. I have an Armour Belt that I wear every day. It's just as stylish as any leather belt from Levi's or Dockers or who ever but it's specifically designed to carry the weight of my gun.

Well my LTC came in the mail yesterday. I have been You-tubeing a lot of holsters and carry options the past few weeks. Does anyone have any feedback on the N82 brand holsters?
