I have a 2015 Tundra Crewmax 4.6L (no tow/haul button) and have never towed anything with it. We plan on getting a TT for our family of 4 to take on trips all across the country. The TT we're looking at getting has a dry weight of 4,615#, a cargo capacity of 1,385# and a dry hitch weight of 470#.

Along with the TT, I plan on getting a weight distribution hitch, sway control and brake controller.

I *think* the truck should be able to pull it safely but please correct me if I'm wrong.

From what I've read so far in this forum, payload capacity might be my bigger concern. The sticker shows a payload capacity of 1,355# with 166# to subtract for modifications. That leaves me with 1,189# for my family of 4, gear to load and the tongue weight.

Am i pushing the limits of my truck and should just look for less trailer? Or will this setup be just fine and not be a headache to haul on vacations across the country? Thanks in advance!

You will be close on the capacity, and if your careful on what/where you load everything, the truck should be fine.

Why don't you take the suggestion from any of the expert transportation service provider to decide the best travel trailer to buy. This can help you in choosing the right and necessary trailer. Either you can browse the websites of a genuine transportation service provider or you can contact companies like California Transporter, A1- Transporter and many more to save your time in buying a new trailer.

About a month ago a guy came up to my mom and step dad at a campground. He had a 2010 with the 4.6, Mom has a 2010 with the 5.7. He asked how much their camper weighted and mom said it was about 9500lbs. The guy was amazed apparently. Asked how it towed, mom said a hell of a lot better than with the f150 we had. The guy then said his camper was about 5k and he was disappointed with the way it pulled. Said he is kicking himself for not getting the 5.7 in his truck.

In my opinion, driving safely at the limit of the truck and driving comfortably well-within the truck’s capabilities are two entirely different things. My 6.7 CM pulls our 5000lb TT comfortably. Comparatively, my Taco pulled it safely, but at its limit, and it certainly wasn’t comfortable and something I wanted to do across the Country.

Two pics: Taco with TT and my Tundra CM with the same camper.

I couldn't imagine pulling my TT without Tow/Haul mode. Makes a huge difference - it holds the gears longer and changes the shift points. IIRC my TT is about 6000lbs un-loaded. With two kids, fire wood, gear, etc the 5.7L CM pulls great. Fill the fresh tank with water and it's a different story - still pulls nicely but accelerates much slower.

Good news is I was able to talk the wife into upgrading to a 2018 Tundra 5.7L. We took the tt home last week and it felt like nothing was behind me. All is good! Thanks yall!

You’ll be fine. Shift the transmission manually but keep your rpms greater than 3000 to help keep your transmission from overheating. I’m assuming you have a tow package with an included transmission cooler??

That's the thing - with no tow/haul button there is no tow package and no tranny cooler.

Moot point I guess since he did the right thing and upgraded.

Recently purchased a 29 foot TT. The truck sags a little less than 2” with the trailer hooked up. Using a WD hitch and the truck has a 3/1 leveling kit. Should I get airbags to help with the sagging, are they a necessary upgrade?
