"If you're in a hurry fighting an incoming tide, just dig a 4x2x2 hole in the sand, put this 'device' in it, fill it back in, winch yourself out, then dig your device back out". Cool idea, but I don't think this will be a quick recovery. I would imagine maxtrax would get you out much much quicker, you just have to make sure they don't get swept out to sea! And you don't have to worry about messing with a winch...
I think they could've made a better video to show off this product and I'm sure it would have it's uses.
Would be interested to see if anyone has used one of these or something like it.

I'll tell you what, if the tide was rolling in and you are barefoot, trying to dig a hold as fast as possible with that nightmare shovel, someone's loosing a tootsie.

It seems like a cool product. If you don't have another vehicle or object to use as an anchor then this is great. Can't see it working in mud or snow (maybe if you bury it really deep). Thankfully my maxtrax have recovered me from any situations, although if I was really worried about getting stuck I'd pick this up and a winch too. It would be the triple threat for self-recovery

    Way faster.

Letting your truck sit in salt water while you go dig a hole. Good way to fuck up just about everything.

that actually pretty badass, i have seen people do something similar with two by fours strapped to tires but would be to concerned with hitting the body, I am kinda liking the idea of the maxtraxx and the deadman, just like the idea of the deadman because could throw it i the truck and forget about it without taking up any space

Especially if you had to winch at any other angle other than straight forward. Also finding two anchor points would suck.

Pretty sure those are built for RC cars buddy... lol. Here is a direct quote from one of those anchors:

"1/10 scale replica of the Pull Pal land anchor. 3D printed in Stainless Steel with all the details of the original 1:1, this land anchor is both portable and well-suited for a wide range of environments. Intended as a tool for winching through sand and mud, Pull Pal's design relies on useful rules of physics. Its hefty plow blade sets firmly and safely into sand, clay, mud, hardpan soil and snow.

NOTE: This is the non-folding version. Tested to withstand 40 Lbs static load."

I dont know how stuck you get, but something rated for 40 lb load wont cut it for me lol

I had a buddy once that got stuck in his K5 at the beach and he dug a 3ft deep hole, ran a strap through his 35" spare, buried it laying down flat in the hole, then filled the dirt in and stomped it down, then used his winch on the strap running through the tire thats buried. It worked along with a little throttle.

same concept, as long as you have a good anchor point that can be buried deep enough it should work or at least help

    None, yet....
So is the premise with this that you’re gonna be digging a hole every time you’re stuck? What if it’s mud? Or like regular dirt? Digging a 4’x2’x2’ hole in regular dirt effing sucks on a good day. I can’t imagine digging it, filling it, then dealing with getting the thing out. It seems like if you’re only gonna get stuck in sand, then it’s great, except for the manual labor part. Otherwise, I have straps, tree savers, and snatch blocks for the rest.

Also, as @ColoradoTJ linked up, it’s just a shittier pull-pal. I just looked it up, it’s over $300 freaking dollars....!! Yeah, I’d buy a pull-pal for that cost.

According to Pull pal site about 600dollars for one that would work with a Tundra, so if i am spending most of my time at the beach the deadman wouldn't be a bad, cheaper option. All depends on what conditions drive in, I do agree the the pull pal would be an easier option to use especially without all the digging, and if the tide is coming in not sure could dig fast enough to get yourself out.

Damn that sure is a premium now days..:eek2:

Then again, it costs 600.00 per extraction in most cases on the beach. One time would have paid for that.

Why not buy something that already exists? May take up more space? Would a boat anchor do the same.

Exactly. Even if I was only at the beach and I got stuck, I would be going and looking for a truck or suv to ask them to use them as an anchor before I went digging and doing all that. Really all you need is almost any vehicle to just give you enough help along with some throttle to get out. Honestly I could probably use a car even as enough of an anchor to assist me getting out.

Also ive seen guys use a heavy duty tarp and more or less make their own one of these for a lot less money.

I had an idea awhile back but not sure if it would work. But for the price of those other recovery anchors, you could buy 3 of these and im pretty sure if you linked them together, would work very well. Plus in my opinion they would work in more various types of soil rather than being a 1 trick pony. Much less labor as well. You would just either need a 24v electric impact and a couple of batteries with you.

Pull Pals are made right here in Colorado. Carbondale. They are quite popular in AK. Especially in the bush. If you go far enough north...there are no trees to use a tree saver strap on. A must have up there unless you want to keep burying your spare tire for an anchor to winch from. In a lot of cases there is no one to help for miles. A lot of folks up there are loners and don't want to be messed with. Taking DIY to extremes.

The basic Deadman anchor is only $190. The $315 option is for their full kit with the shackles and carrying case, etc.

Deadman is worth it when compared to the price and bulk of Pull Pal.
