My wife is wanting to get a 4wheeler or side x side. I dont have much experience with these, so I figured I'd ask here. I'm familiar with Polaris, but was wondering what else I might should look at? Not looking to spend a fortune, and wont do anything too crazy in it.

    What are some suggestions?

Wife and I were going to do that also, then we saw how much they are. We were looking at razors.
Started looking at jeeps, still expensive if you want one with coilovers up front.
Ended up getting a 95 4Runner for 3k in great shape. Almost same size as a side by side too. Just a toy so not worried about breaking it. So far it’s amazed the hell out of me what it can do basically stock.
    Just an option.

Polaris Ranger gets my vote. We have always owned Polaris off road vehicles. My dad and I have both owned Sportsman’s and now Rangers. He has a 570(which is probably fine for your needs) and I have 900. Both are ‘17 models.

What are you looking to spend?

I'm honestly not even sure. I was looking online at the Ranger 500, $9K. A lot less than that would be awesome, but it is what is. That's why I was asking about other potential brands. I know Polaris is quality and you get what you pay for.

Depending on what you use it for, the 500 would probably be fine. But for a little more $$, the 570 would be great choice. They are reliable and have great power. My dad loves his Ranger 570.

I don't have one, would love a new 172hp Can Am Maverick X3, but Honda Pioneer would get my vote. No CVT transmission. I grew up in a Honda 4 wheeler family and nobody ever had a problem with any of the ones we've had from Big Red 3 wheelers all the way to new Ranchers and lots in between amongst several family members.

It's a bit like asking "what car should I get?" The answer is, it depends on your intended use. For bullet-proof farm work, It's hard to beat the Kawasaki Mule.

For a utility side by side Rangers are the way to go in my opinion. My extended family has owned numerous Rangers and they are work hogs. We use them for farming, hauling wood, transporting deer and hunters during gun season, etc. The oldest Ranger is starting to show it's age (prob around 10yrs old) but it's still a beast.

I have a pic somewhere that one of our trail cameras caught a few seasons ago. 5 hunters (3 sitting in front and 2 standing in back) with 3 deer driving thru a chisel plowed field. It was pretty impressive.

Everyone on here rags on Ford/Chevy etc for reliability and then recommends Polaris? No offroad vehicle manufacturer has had more recalls than that company. They just paid out a 27M settlement to the CPSC for failure to report their issues. Honda Pioneer, Yamaha Rhino or Viking, Kawasaki Mule.

I was just thinking that, and agree. The Yamahas are hard to beat.

I often see Polaris and Can Am's with tow straps hooked up to them being towed through the dunes. Also with a CVT, there's wear of the belt that I've seen a lot of people replacing on the trails. If I ever need a work horse, I'll be buying 4x4 wheeler and attach a trailer to tow.

Also a Honda guy. Definately give them a look. The pioneer 700 is in your price range, its very reliable! I have the 1000 but drive them both a lot. GL and... no belts!
