I agree - each MFG is responsible for sourcing reliable 3rd party parts MFG’s.
But I think the consensus is, we’d much rather have a F’d up airbag that can easily be replaced than a junk Ecoburst along with a crap transmission.
Those are the heart-and-soul of the vehicle. More R&D should’ve been done on Ford’s part before jumping the gun to release.

All I was saying is I’d cut a manufacture some slack having to do a recall based on 3rd party components such as air bags. Yes, the manufacture is responsible for the recall and fixing it since they put them in the vehicle. Additionally, I’d imagine it’d be hard to test airbags... once they’re deployed it’s hard to get the tooth paste back in the tube.

But mostly I’m speaking about more general components.

There was recently an issue with the rear seat mounts in my tundra. The trucks may have left the factory without the bolts being tightened to spec meaning they have to pull the rear seats and reinstall them with the correct torque setting. That’s totally on Toyota IMO. But it’s not something that’s hard to fix or costly to fix... nor does it cause the vehicle to stop functioning properly (assuming I don’t get into an accident).

Having a transmission with an internal mount issue seems like a Ford problem... and sounds like one that could leave you stranded on the side of the road. Same with their issues of condensation inside the turbos which screws up the o2 sensors or forced water into the engine or something - whatever it’s doing it causes the engine to go into limp mode. I flag that as poor QC on Fords part.

But that’s all just my view on things. You’re entitled to have a different one :)

Rather odd...i was hoping I could get an f150 because tundras were out of my price range. That changed. No regrets.

If it has tits or wheels it will give you problems. Tundras just have less of them.

LOL!!! Same thing happened to me!:D
I always figured Tundras were more expensive. I shopped F150’s for 3 months thinking I’d save a bunch of money on a less worthy truck. Then when I shopped Tundra, deal was done.

Eta - I don’t buy new unless a used deal just can’t be made. I got lucky on my Tundra and while on vacation checked it out and sent my wife back over on a girls trip to buy it. (It’s supposed to be my farm truck) But she’ll end up with a Sequioa or a 4runner soon and it most likely be new. I can’t find a good used deal.

Not offended by “used”.... my first Toyota 4X4 I bought new in.......1985! This one I bought with 30k miles for $34k. The part that messed up is that I paid $17k for the 85’.

Hehe I’m just messing around. It’s just marketing.

I was just curious if the truck F150 was better priced because the vehicles compared weren’t new. When I was looking at them Ford has higher list prices for similar packages.

No offense taken. I had been looking at lower level trims on the f150. So when I found my tundra I was thrilled.

The best part was that I wasn’t even looking for a truck at the time. A guy had a 16’ enclosed trailer for sale. When we both showed up at the trailer storage area, he was in the Tundra. Told him that was the truck i’d like to have. He told me that he was getting out of the moving from one state to another (Navy guy) and that he was gonna be selling it when his new car came in 6-8 weeks from then. I bought it the next week.

To be fair, that's 2 different things.

    1. Believing that a vehicle is bulletproof reliable.
    2. Buying a F150.

The 1st is not realistic thinking, the Tundra will obviously have things break down but it will most likely still be on the road. The 2nd option is quite rationale to someone with different priorities. Most reliable not being number one, replaced by the desire for new tech, short-term leasing, succumb to marketing etc.

While we can point out difference and why we like our certain trucks, there's no point convincing an end user if they have an opposing opinion simply because of personal preferences like PC vs Mac or iPhone vs android.

You probably have been thinking long term, so have you thought about the metal on the truck? If it is aluminum, you might want to wait for a few years. Aluminum is not the same for repair as steel. There are a lot of “techs” that can repair steel, in its various forms, but the talent for repairing, welding, replacing aluminum is a whole lot different! The system for that method is not widely used or known yet. I believe that the Ford is not a bad truck, it is just a high maintenance one! I know the Tundra, it is not, and I also know it will be around a long time! Good luck

One of my coworkers got a F150 last week. Went to the shop yesterday for a repair, not related to the recall.
I gave him so much shit. This is gonna be fun. BUT, as much shit as I have been talking I hope I nothing ever breaks on my truck.

From what I see at work, the Ford fan-boiz won't give several trips to the dealer a thought. I was told by more than one of 'em, " well, my F-150 has 40,000 miles on it, it's time for it to need some work"!

As with most things from Japan, when they build something they build it right. If there is an issue it gets corrected until the build is perfected. The idea of old tech is just hype. The truck is made to last and I have yet to find a Ford or Chevy customer that is still in love with their truck hundreds of thousands of miles later. I am on my 4th Camery and 1st Tundra and it really doesn't matter what the other brands offer, these vehicles or like a Timex watch. If you are planning on driving your vehicle well beyond the last payment, then buy a Toyota. If you like having the latest whiz-bang gadget or the flashiest new body style buy something else. Its just that simple but the Toyota will cost you less in the long run.

That is literally what every ford sales person will tell you about a F 150 vs a Tundra. What do you want .. A reliable truck or a truck with all kinds of tech stuff that you will never use ... or is useless. Ford tries to hide their unreliability with shiny objects and colorful lights ... don't be fooled.

I'm late to this party but the last Ford I had was a 2007 F-150 King Ranch. Leather, all the add ons. It was nice... for about a month. After that, I really didn't like it very much. Eventually, I got rid of it.

I'm going on 2 years now with my 2017 Tundra SR5. It has a column shifter and a cloth bench seat. I like it, a lot. I'll be keeping this one.

I think it’s fair to say that most automobile buyers in general accociate Toyota with the word reliable. Take a look at resale too. See how much a three year old Tundra is worth with your average annual mileage and do the same for the f150. It’ll give you a ballpark idea of the difference in resale.
