I for one would love Toyota to match the F150 on features and performance while delivering current tundra levels of reliability. They have the engine/transmission and technology components in their parts bin already.

Personally I think that they are not reliable is because they spend so much time adding so many gadgets and features that there's too much that can go wrong and can't actually concentrate on quality.

I'm less concerned with technology and more concerned with creature comforts. Include more stuff in standard packages - heated seats, leather, sun roof. The rear window that slides down is great, I wish my truck had it. For that matter, I want an automatic rear sliding window. I have an SR5 with the convenience package, it came with all sorts of bells and whistles, running boards, and it's beautiful. But the sliding rear window is manual. That stinks. It's literally the only issue I have with my truck. I know, it's a really big deal! :) Stuff like this needs to be the stuff they look at.

A co-worker with a shiny new F150 in a higher trim level was telling me about how his truck has like 5 different engine/tranny "modes" it can be put into. Screw that. Regular and tow haul are fine. Any more than that is annoying, in my opinion. "Ok, I'm in sand, time to switch modes. Ok, out of sand, into a different mode. Towing a trailer away from the beach, into a different mode. Took a trip to the mountains, time to put it into snow mode. Now let's put it in 'sport' mode to tool around the city." No thanks.

If Toyota can make an 8 or 10 speed transmission work, I'd at least consider it. The 6 speed on the Tundra is glorious, however, the 6 speed in the Tacoma is an utter piece of garbage. So they need to tread carefully.

Toyota already sells an 8 speed (matched to the 5.7) on the Land Cruiser and LX 570; there's also an "ecoboost + 10-speed" powertrain in the LS 500, a 3.5 TT V6 making 414/443 and an Aisin 10AT

None of this stuff is new to Toyota, they just don't offer it in their pickup line (yet)

Well, that's extremely encouraging then. I can't imagine that the types of people who have the money to spend on Land Cruisers would accept a shuddering, power-sapping tranny like the Tacoma has. I surmise we'll see it adapted to the Tundra on the eventual redesign.

I had to do an image search to see what an LS 500 was, and it seems like a turbo in a sedan would be pretty cool. I'm still leery of using a small V6 with a turbo to duplicate the strength of an angry V8, but then again what do I know?

There is a lawsuit where someone got hurt because of the driver side "Oh Shit" handle, that's why it was removed.

Toyota has a real opportunity to get new truck buyers now that Ford will stop production of their trucks at the end of August. The company that build their dashboards burned down and they only have inventory through August. Ford is investing billion into companies that can produce their dashboard. So Toyota needs to step up their game.

The bed: Add lights. Add a 110v household outlet like the Tacoma has. Add the cubby holes that the Tacoma has. Add a rail style/tie down system to the floor of the bed. Make the bed Line X from the factory.

    Ten speed trans.

Better MPG. Aluminum fenders, hood and bedsides would help.

    LED light everything.

Better tailgate. Add a step or handle. AMP bed step from the factory? Factory pop and lock?

Option for an auxiliary button console. Factory Switch Pros set up.

Great replies on this thread, agree with most of them.

    Here's a tiny little gripe:

I hate the "one way" dash light dimmer. If it has to be stepped give me an up/down control. If I start before sunrise (I do once a week during my commute), I have to go full bright before stepping down to a bit brighter than when I started. I would really just like an analog dial like every truck (or car) has had for the past several decades.

Why put in messed up parts in a new tundra. The dash is just garbage. The 08 Tundra stereo rocked. My cell phone speakers are better than the whole stereo in my 2018 limited. Fix yourself now before you reach the bottom.

All great suggestions. I especially agree with the 110 volt outlet. I’m interested to know more about that lawsuit regard the oh shit handle. I’d really like to know how that thing could hurt anyone unless they in a wreck and weren’t wearing a seatbelt. Seems like if it really were an issue they’d have removed the passenger side handle as well.

If they do go with an 8 speed I hope it doesn't search for gears as much as my girlfriends new Camry.

    *true rear lsd
*if the 5.7 is used in gen 4, actually fix the cam tower issue
*factory bed lights would be a nice addition

Other then that I'm pretty happy with this truck. Those who want better mpg, be careful what you wish for. We will end up with something we don't like for 1-2mpg, no thanks.these trucks are not far off from the competitors mpg's when your actually using them for truck duty. I love the gearing, so please Toyota don't change it...this truck is the best towing 1500 I have had thus far.

    • One touch up/down on all window controls.
    • Put backlit switchs in the window controls on each door.
    • Put the mirror controls on the door panels w/backlit switch or at least put backlit switchs for the mirror control.
    • Please do something better with entune/infotainment system. I do regret the $$ I spent on it.
    • More storage under rear seat.
    • 110v outlet would be great.
    • Put package appropriate tires on.
    • I bought this truck because of the 5.7 engineering. Leave it alone. I love it.
