So I've read a bunch of the threads on washing and drying methods; I got one of Steve's dry me a river towels (and a pressure washer, and grit guards, and...), and have a few questions since I'm a rookie at this.

    1. Do you wet your MF towel and wring it out before using it for drying?

    2. First time I used the towel I got the sense that it was wet pretty fast and I wasn't getting the truck dry - rather l was leaving very small trails of water - is that an issue. Do I need multiple towels this size to dry the truck?

    3. Detailing spray - generally what is the purpose in this tool? Seems some folks use it to clean spots that don't come off with the foam wash, some to polish chrome, some use it on glass, some folks put detailing spray on the drying towel - what's this about?

    Thanks for your input!

Before I dry with a micro fiber towel I use a rubber squeegee to wipe off the most of the water first. Then you take your micro fiber towel and kind of slide it across to pick up the remained of water. For this truck I use two mft

I just use a chamois to dry my truck off after washing it and it leaves small trails of water.....I wring out the chamois and go over the area again until its dry.

    wipe, wring, repeat......

I use an electric leaf blower to get all the water out of the cracks and crevices. If I'm drying for the purpose of a full detail, I use the Griots Garage PFM drying towel. It's expensive, but worth it. I've used the Guzzler Waffle Weave, Gyeon Silk, Adams Ultra plush, Rag Company Twistress, Chemical guys waffle weave.....and nothing has compared to the PFM. Thankfully, it's available now in a smaller size than the original one.

If I'm drying after a maintenance wash, I'll often use a spray wax as a drying aid....typically Griots Spray Wax or Meguiars D156. They act as a nice booster for your current lsp

I have an older friend of the family who washes private Jets for a living its amazing how much money those guys get paid but anyways he told me just to get a good squeegee and a nice towel that's all you need no need for any special chamois those are over rated I tried it once and never used a chamois again so much faster and no streaks or water trails he also told me not to use any leather cleaners he said just use soap and water interesting but its true I never once have applied armorall or any similar products to any of my leather seats.. but to each their own

I have a high power blower designed for detailing. Great investment that saves time and the aggravation of water dripping out of everywhere when you pull out of the driveway.

I have to agree. I use the PFM terry weave drying towel from Griots and am amazed at how well it does. I'm looking for another one but because I'm a cheap SOB I'm looking for a cheaper version. Haven't found it yet. So for now, I use a chamois then the towel. Tundra is too big for one towel to dry it and the towel's don't ring out very well. They need to air dry or thrown in the dryer with light heat.

We have really hard water where I live. I've been using distilled water to rinse the truck followed by a blower and I've been really happy with the results.

How many gallons per wash do you use? They make portable water conditioning systems for car washing.

Well, I continued my search for a cheaper alternative to Griots towel and found this at Chemical Guys:https://www.chemicalguys.com/v/vspfiles/photos/MIC_725-2.jpg They appear to be about the same for a lot less cost so I went ahead and ordered it. The funny thing (actually sad thing) I used their standard shipping for $2.99 instead of their expedited shipping. I figured they're located in SoCal and that's usually a 2-3 day delivery time. Well, they shipped it promptly via Fedex the day after the order and I've been tracking it. The package seems to be on a tour of the northwest. Went up the I-5 right past my home in Eugene, Oregon to Portland. So I thought, ok, they'll ship it back to Eugene. Nope, it went further north to Kent, Washington and then dropped off with USPS to be mailed back to me. I don't get it. If they're going to mail it, why didn't the just mail it from their Cali warehouse? It would have been delivered sooner. I guess they really wanted me to use their expedited shipping at extra cost. Jeeeez.

In case you never get your other towel, here's a good one to try...considerably less expensive than the PFM.....
