Just saw a Extang Solid Fold 2.0 on my Dad’s Dodge. What recommendations do others have for after-market tonneau covers?

You’re going to get at least 5 people telling you to do a search on this topic and you really should.

BUT, I’m saving up for an undercover SE :woot:

What are some of the best tonneau covers out there on the market?

I do not have a tonneau on my Tundra, but I do have a RETRAX on my Company Ram and absolutely love it. If I could get a RETRAX made to work with my BAMF bed rack, I would do it in a heart beat.

They make both aluminum and polycarbonate models in standard and power.

Had dealership install a tri fold tonneau cover when I purchased it. The Toyota dealership installed a Rugged 2 cover. I love it! Also came with LED lighting and have had no issues with leaks.

It depends on what you are expecting it to do and what style you like. Diamondback is popular and a true work horse. BAKflips are also popular, but not as rugged as the Diamondback. Do you want to have gear, quads, etc sitting on top........go with Diamondback.

Be prepared to pay for a good one. :spending:

I have heard Rugged are good. I went with a Tonno Pro(which looks to be tied to Lund).

With 4200 reviews on AutoAnything and 4.5/5, I went with it. Price is great.

There are lots of great options, it will depend on your price range and needs.

A little of this and a little of that.
I've got a bakflip x2 and the thing works like a champ. I love that i can access the tail gate without putting the tonneau up or down. I also like how low profile it is. It doesn't leak either

I have the BackFlip from the dealer (Installed May 2017). Seems pretty solid, and i've only had slight leaking when pressure washing it.

    Sorry about the night shots...

My brother in law has a Backflip from like 10 years ago. It's holding up pretty well except the seal on the back 3rd is shot so it leaks in that section when it rains... I'm pretty sure it's 10 years old though... and it lives outside in Houston (HOT) so some seal wear is to be expected.

Looking at how it is installed on my truck (As I said previously, the dealer did it) - It doesnt look like it'd be too difficult. Maybe helpful to have an extra set of hands though. And a polite host provides beer :)

I plan to get an A.R.E. LSX Ultra early next year, but they're pricey. Like $2500 pricey.

I have not seen those in person but did sell Retrax for years, from a couple images I’ve seen could you cut the inside wrapping lip off and bolt the rack through the bed rails? If so you could do a retrax ...

Depends on budget : soft is to unsecured IMO, BAK and Undercover have better options if your wallet can lol

BAMF Bedrack, 295/70/r18 General Grabbers, Bedslide, Weathertech floor mats, and Tepui Autana Sky RTT.
While that would be possible, the lip on the BAMF bedrack primarily keeps that flat piece of metal that sits on top of the bed rail from warping. (At least I believe that is one of the primary reasons outside of being able to utilize the bedrail system to bolt too, but @jlee could probably explain a whole lot better). I spoke with RETRAX and they would be willing to make a custom rail to mount the cover to that I could mount up or weld to my bed rack. Now that I have a drawer setup with bedslide on top, the cover would only give me about 12-15 inches of available covered height.

With the bedslide only I think it would be well worth getting a cover figured out but the drawers bedlslide combo changed my needs/wants somewhat.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with Diamondback. The one I bought almost three years ago, still looks like it did when it was new.

best option is diamondback cover, but I have undercover flip which iI like because it sits very flush, can't even tell it has a cover on it till get close to it.

I guess it all depends on what your using for, looks, storage - tool security or for a combinat6BD92359-D078-4FB1-A4E7-B965F9AC2FDE.jpg ion. The diamondback isnt a good option if your transporting dirt bikes like myself. I had an extang solid fold for 8 years but eventually the panels became separated from the frames, I wouldn’t say Support was very good. I also had to remove it each time I wanted to put bikes in the back. It was easy and took 2 minutes but it was still an extra step. I got a new bak x4 and love it,same security as the extang but I can roll it up and put the bikes in without removing it. None of them are perfect, just got to find the right one for your use.

I looked at the mx4 also, but wanted my rear window unobstructed when folded. So it wasn’t a real option for me.

I got the same cover for my crewmax and love it.

I am looking for a headache rack and wondering if anyone on the forum has experience with this (Bak system) cover and rack options that fit. The Bak folks say you can use your bedside for any options with this setup, but it seems many racks install with a mount flange using a lip on the inside rail which would interfere with the Bak aluminum seal flange that sits on the inner edge of the body. This eliminates any rack with an inner lip and as well any with a wide flange that would reach the Bak aluminum track (albeit, without cutting the rack flange to fit. Is anyone aware of a rack type that fits with none or minimal modification that wont interfere with the BAK setup? I just don't want to order something only to discover that it wont fit cleanly... I am thinking the Westin Heavy Duty or others that mount with a flat mounting plate. Any guidance would be appreciated!
