Mini needle nose pliers and a dental hook should get it out of there.

    Nope.

I will have to get to the base.

    Needle nose of no help

    Dental pick...... maybe.

The base of the bulb is almost flush with the contacts so nothing to grab into

I will have to do without an extra cargo light

I'd use needle nose pliers. I did the same thing on the interior lights. If that doesn't work just use liquid nails and sheetrock screws that always fixes stuff for me.

I may have to drop headliner then unbolt to do surgery.

I will take all advice under advisement before taking housing out completely

Look at last half of youtube how to remove cargo assembly.

For my peeps so you don’t have the same problem as I did, use this method to remove cargo bulb........

Superglue or jbweld on a toothpick stuck into remaining part of bulb socket should get it out.

I know it's an old thread, but I just did this exact thing last night. I even had a nice pair of rubber tipped pliers specifically for bulbs, designed to grab around the bulb to the base. Both bulbs broke flush with the housing, I was being mindful of this because I knew that others have had issues with these bulbs specifically.

Ended up using an offset pick and a 90 degree pick to dig the remainder of the bulb out. Not the end of the world, but complicated an otherwise easy task.

I've only ever had 1 other bulb break like that. The bulbs were able to move in the housing and were not seized or corroded.

I swapped the stocks for a set of LED's. The bed is now filled with light when I need to find something at night.

Might be able to put some string with a half hitch knot or other self tightening knot. Just an idea.

I currently have one bulb bust at the base and had planned on replacing the 3rd brake light altogether.

Have a pic of your bulb pic tool?

After the bulb broke it really only took about 2 minutes per bulb to get the rest of it out of the housing. Not a big deal if you have a pick, just dig it out. The below picture is the set that I have in my toolbox, standard pick set.

    Thanks.
I may have to spray WD40 since bulb base could be seized up.

    Planning surgery for this weekend

Finally completed the surgery, and worked as you explained.

The 2nd buld, I used the “tie-string-around-tooth” method.

    Am a happy Lark

Thank you for this tool suggestion

I know you posted this a while ago, but do you have a link for the LEDs? you just replaced the bulbs with LEDs or did you replace the whole housing too?

RevTek 2.5" Leveling Kit, basically replaced every light bulb with LED. Otherwise completely stock.
I bought, and replaced every light with LED's for my 2015, from Headlight Revolution and it took two months and 4 shipments for them to finally fill my order. They don't tell you things are backordered unless you actually call them to find out what's going on.
