I have a customer who’s brand new Titan truck had all the wire harness chewed by mice. So he got a brand new truck from Nissan. He went to start it and got a Christmas tree of lights on the brand new truck. Come to find out his new replacement truck also has rodent damage to the wires. So he found out that Nissan is using soy based products to insulate the wiring. So there is a lot of Titan owners with the rodent damage to the wiring. Sounds like this issue is happening with more vehicle manufacturers since they use products that attract rodents for food.

Long. Long. Time. We see older vehicles chewed up right along with newer ones.

Mice, rats, squirrels. See a lot of chewed up cabin filters too. Pulled a few dead mice outta the blower motor. That smell stays with you for a while.

I had this exact same thing happen to me just last month! I live in California. Stupid rodent chewed through the foam insulation, then chewed up the wiring harness that connects to the Knock Sensor (Stupid Cali Smog Crap). which also connected to the backside of the tranny, so had to have the entire harness replaced... Cost me $1,000!

Ok so similar story on my husband's 2016 tundra pro. We were driving on highway at 75mph and all the sudden engine light start flashing and traction control off light comes on. We loose power and creep home. Checked code and said it was cylinder 2 misfire. Before we took to Toyota we happen to open the air filter box, well I found a nest with 5 baby squirrels. Eyes still closed. I cleaned it out and checked the cabin air filter, it was completely chewed out on the center. So we take truck to Toyota explain all the above and they have it 4 days. No wiring damage, they spend time talking to Toyota engineers so they take of heads and discover a bad fuel injector and replace it. All is good......until 2 days later the engine light and traction control come on again., back to Toyota, they still have my truck as of today (5 days) and said it could be wiring, computer or something else......ughhhh, so they even know what they are doing. They already said it wasn't wiring. I have had 7 tundras and none have given me any trouble till now

Hi, Derna; welcome from SoCal! In what part of the country do you live?

That's a beautiful truck (the best colour!) and I'm sorry you've named it a nightmare. Damn rodents! Glad to have you here; I hope that gets worked out in short order, and that Toyota dealership treats you right.

I have a similar story. I bought a brand new Polaris. I parked it in my shed where I also stored corn. The 4 wheeler only had 98 miles on it. I started it and it sounded odd. I short drive of about a half mile and the motor locked up. I took it to the dealer and he cracked the case to reveal about 3-4# of finely ground corn. A mouse had chewed into the crankcase vent and dropped the corn in there. $2000 dollars later my engine was rebuilt and I traded it off.

My previous tundra, 2014 blue ribbon had rodent damage. One wire was chewed thru that threw codes and the cabin air filter had a big hole and nest. Cost me $100 for the dealer to repair the wire, and replace the cabin filter and clean out the mess.

My 2013 and first tundra after 3 months had something crawl inside the cab and die, never could find it but it stunk for months.

I prefer suppressed .22 for critters these days

I live in New Mexico, in the cibola national forest. The truck on my profile is my truck, no damage. But my husband parks his in the back of the house and for some reason like hi more than mine. We paid almost $400 for them to do a complete flush of the ac to get the smell out and put a screen guard so they cant get into cabin filter again. Still waiting to see what else is wrong

I had a Norway rat eat a good bit of my wiring harness, air intake housing, and gas lines on top of the tank, last year in June. I turned the problem over to my insurance company who arranged pick up, repair, and paid over $7k (in addition to my part of $1k deductible) to repair it. I got the truck back from the dealership in mid August, there was an extraordinarily long lead time on the gas lines being delivered. I caught the rat and can post a picture later. I did research on this and found that all vehicles are susceptible to this problem due to the fact that the plastic parts and insulation on wiring are manufactured with a soy base now rather than petroleum base. This is due to demand from environmentalists to reduce carbon emissions or whatever. It started with Mercedes in the 1990s requesting an environmentally friendly alternative to the petroleum based plastics then in use. The manufacturers eventually stopped making the petroleum based plastics to reduce their costs since it would be more costly to produce both types.

Thats why i ordered the spray that Beastman used. Better safe than sorry. Even if you park inside most of the time...all it takes is one time parking at another location.
