I'm assuming you tried cycling the gear shift through all the gears and back to park. My Jeep did this occasionally and smacking the end of the key worked most of the time, the tumblers would get dirty and wouldn't release.

On my 2011 which has a column shifter I had the same issue. I couldn't take the key out after starting my truck. You could turn it off and on but couldn't turn past ACC in order to remove the key. I found that there was a little "ignition switch" that is actuated by the Actual shift lever when you put it into park. That switch wasn't making enough contact due to it wearing down over the years (it's made of plastic....). So a quick fix to get my key out was to unplug the wire harness from the ignition lock solenoid which has pretty easy access. This will release your key. Obviously the correct way to fix this is to replace the little ignition switch (I just went to the junk yard and got what I need). But, if you're in a jam all you need is a screw driver to remove the plastic trim on the bottom of the steering column in order to unplug the wire that will release your key... and yes your truck will still operate with that wire unplugged. The intent of that ignition lock is so you don't accidentally take your key out when your'e not in park. I posted a link to a video below:

Sometimes you gotta jiggle the steering wheel around to get the key out. It’s happened with both of my Tundras.
