Ran across UbiFi looking for a service provider since I'm in the middle of nowhere and I'm tired of paying VZW $300/month. Upfront costs are high but there's a 30 day trial window with full refunds and if it works out I could save about $100/month on my cell plan.

I've done some searching but figured I'd see if anyone had first hand experience.

Yes to all. We use the hotspots on our phones for everything since there are no other (reasonable priced) options for broadband where we live. It's not uncommon for us to use anywhere between 1-200GB/month.

have you looked into internet through a satellite provider ? how about DSL (terrestrial phone line) ? I assume you don't have cable provider where you at.

Ubifi looks to use LTE cell signal to deliver high speed internet so it's just another cell plan. Make sure to read the fine prints on the pricing and when the promotional offer resets.

Satellite is the same as most cell plans, good speed until 50GB then throttled until the beginning of the next month. No DSL which really irritates me since Verizon received government funding to make it available then changed their minds. No cable option. Checked out the fine print and it's pretty straightforward, they use AT&T's network which works here and I chatted with a rep who said no problem with up to 500gb/month.

Biggest cost is about $400 in equipment up front for a router/gateway and outdoor antenna. Service is $80 on a month to month basis, so no contract and I would own the equipment after the 30 day trial. If it works well enough I could drop my satellite TV for $70/month and switch to T-Mobile for cell and go from $285 to $170 with free Netflix.

That bottom MOFI is what they are selling and surprisingly it's cheaper than Amazon at $299.

I'm on vacation for a week so I'm going to think it over but I'm leaning towards giving it a shot. Worst case I'm out a little money for shipping.

I got it set up tonight I'm seeing 5 down, 10 up which is great compared to the 1 down, 1 up I get with VZW in the best spot in the house. Signal strength went from -114 to -103 just by hooking up the outdoor antenna. I plan on ordering a 50' extension to get the antenna up above the roof line which I'm sure will help.

Either way we tried it with streaming Netflix on 2 Fire TV's and a tablet with 3 phones connected just browsing and there wasn't any issues with the TV's set to the "Better" streaming quality.

I'll keep running it for a couple weeks and see how things pan out.

Hey Festerw, how is Ubifi internet working for you? We are looking at it. Did you get the 50' extension antenna?

It runs off of the AT&T network, yes.

I bought the antenna they offered but then also got a yagi antenna for the second antenna port. It works very well for the options we have available and has enough bandwidth to stream on 2 TV's, a tablet, and browse on a couple phones.

Thanks for the response! Much appreciated. We will try it. Do you know how much data you use? With our kids using it, it would probably be alot,

Anyone know a good wifi booster? We had Comcast for a while, now we are AT&T direct and the Mrs n cable guy decided to put all the equipment in the living room, so the wifi is good in all room, and backyard patio area, but since I'm in the garage n do work out in the driveway the signal sucks, any recommendations???

Not 100% on it but we're around 200GB/month. No difference in speed we've noticed at any times.

A couple range extenders would probably be your best bet.

I would look at a mesh network for max coverage and reliability. Not a fan of range extenders myself. Google WiFi is pretty good, or the Netgear Orbi's are incredible. But expensive.
