Where do you order your kit from? I don't see it listed on their site nor could I find it via that product code on the internet.

I had to call Magnuson to order the kit. Wanted new o rings and oem coupler. You can get just the coupler from many places, some claim to be better then the oem.

For the oil, just buy the GM supercharger oil...either from a cheverolet dealer or online. This is all you need if you are just changing the oil. And a syringe if you plan to do it on the truck. If your supercharger is not rattling at idle and you have small enough hands/dexterity just change the oil w/o removing the S/C

I bought my 2015 used with about 20k miles on it - TRD supercharged from new. A year ago they replaced the supercharger under warranty - the truck was making new belts squeal almost immediately. Apparently the shaft of the pulley had some defect. Now it is in the shop again - this time with a clicking noise coming from the SC... A case is open with Toyota, and they are preparing me to be without the truck for a while. Reading around I don't see many people complaining of issues, so I think this truck is an anomaly.

Can't believe I am going through this again, though.

I have the SC...put it on at 6700 miles...thus far (60K now) its been fine. I don't beat it, nor do I have any other performance-related mods. I keep all the mnx up...even change the oil every 5K.

Overall, the guys who don't beat the piss out of their trucks and haven't added more mods (pulley, tuner, lift, larger tires, etc) seem to do fine...I don't hear of any type of regular issues or problems. BTW: I don't let the dealer "test" drive my truck without me in it...ever, nor do I loan it out.

Where I see issues are with the guys who SC their Tundras, add other mods (pulley, tuner, lift, larger tires, etc) and run the piss out of them. They are the ones running into problems/blowing the engine, breaking rear diff, engine codes, etc.

I do recall seeing one guy (about 6 months ago) say his SC'd motor blew at 80K and he didn't beat or further mod the truck? Not sure if that is true, but I will take it at face value.

I am sure there have probably been others and I am unaware, but you are the only one I can recall with warranty-like/defect issues.

Therefore, I agree with your assessment that your truck is an anomaly...wonder if the PO was having issues and therefore traded it off? Are you sure they replaced the entire SC? And are you sure they swapped in a new SC? Or maybe they only swapped in a front housing? I am surprised that there would be 2 superchargers that (possibly) failed on the same truck.

I had mine for over a year and around 14k miles or so? Pulled it. Needed a new nose cone and bearings were shot. Guess what? The Toyota Field Inspector (?) flew our and authorizes the warranty repair because it showed no signs of neglect.

Toyota denied the claim because it wasn’t purchased from them, despite the fact I had Toyota install it.

They had to order the entire supercharger (minus the fit kit), and the dealer told me it was replaced in its entirety (showed me the invoice for 9k for the SC... damn). The truck no other performance mods besides the SC (well, it is loaded up on TRD - bbk, dual exhaust, sway bar). It has a 3/1 lift and I'm running 285/55R20s right now, but I plan to go up to 35s. My foot isn't exactly light, but I'm not racing it.

The belt squeal had been an issue for the previous owner, and may have been the reason it was traded in. It was a 4 month slog with the dealer (they started by blaming the RCI skid plate...) to get the SC replaced, so I could see them not wanting to deal with that. On the plus side, I got a free maintenance contract out of that protracted ordeal. The dealer has done all maintenance (for the PO and me) on time.

And Toyota just approved another SC replacement... No ETA though.

Yep I think that you might be the guy to make it!
I’m still waiting to hear from anyone that has gotten 200k on a Super charged 5.6 engine.
That’s not adding the SC at 140k, and THEN going to 200k miles!
    Good luck

71.5k on mine and not even a hiccup. I love my SC’d Tundra...in fact I am thinking of getting a 2019 TRD Pro to keep for a few years until they can get some mods for the new gen motor. I’m happy with performance and fuel economy with my Tundra now, so I may jump on a 19’ when most people are waiting.

I just picked up a 2010 Tundra with 101k mi that has been TRD S/C since birth and it really runs great. I don't think the previous owner (70yrs old) ever changed the oil in the S/C but I just got an email back from Magnuson that stated "Don't mess with it until it starts making weird noises. They are maintenance free." Lets see just how long it will last.

Same here, and I'm still on my original engine, trans and with 308whp for at least 12 years now. Some people know how to drive them, some don't.

I'm only at 7k with my SC. I purchased my 17 CM with 21.5k on it and the SC was installed by my Toyota tech team (yea, they are my team and do all my work) with around 25k. Only issue I had was MAF sensor error code that turned out to be the MAF sensor which they replaced under warranty. I think they damaged it during the SC install somehow. Anyway, here is what I got from Magnuson on maintenance.

Spark Plugs. Denso IKH 22 - every 25k[Dan Bronsten] 25K is a little early. You can match whatever the stock plug change interval is. Is it 100K?

Belt Part # 79-08-11-024[Dan Bronsten] Yep that is our part number. The Dayco part number is 5081125, just in case you want to price shop. We are not the cheapest on belts.

SC Fluid - only after leak[Dan Bronsten] , correct the oil is self-contained and maintenance free. It would be very rare to have a leak.

Intercooler - every 100k[Dan Bronsten] , yes. Whenever you change the engine coolant. I would check the level of this fluid in the reservoir every oil change. That way you can make sure there are no leaks in the system at the various hose connections.

So who has the highest mileage with a supercharger, I’m kicking around the idea.

my 2008 Sequoia just hit 140k miles, it's been supercharged since ~ 30k miles. hasn't been 100% trouble free, but i do run bully dog, URD underdrive pully and have a heavy foot. i have had to replace both upstream catalytic converters in the last year as the biscuit came lose and started rattling, and have fouled a few spark plugs over the years...

bully dog says 0-60 in 5.9 seconds, i'm not sure how that compares to others, but it's fast enough for me

Do you attribute these repairs to the SC and what is a biscuit besides what I eat on on occasion....low carb diet and all. Thanks.

The biscuit is the entire honeycomb substrate, it is attached to the converter itself with a ceramic material, and that ceramic material broke on both of mine causing a very loud exhaust rattle

Is it the SC? No way to prove it, but the shop that replaced the converters said it obviously got too hot, but suspected the O2 sensors may be on their way out.

I think I hit less than 12k on it. I want another (which I can get at cost), but I don’t want issues again.

I'm thinking about getting one, as well. Watching too much Jay Leno garage makes me want something. I've been wanting a turbo kit for the harley for years, but that seems like a terrible idea, honestly. The only real issue I have with the SC is that 2 times a month, I get in my truck and drive it for 7 hours, on the interstate. Seems like that would be compounded stress. Compounded stress=premature failure, but man do I want something fun to drive. I looked into the hellcat wide body but a 10k SC is easier to bite on than a 71k car.

With this being my somewhat daily driver(i drive it 7 hours to work, then it sits for 2 weeks, then I drive it 7 hours home) and the 98 k1500 i use around the house, it seems like i may be in a position to pull the trigger on a SC, but a failure 2 states away from home would suck.

I’m no mechanic but assuming your 7 hours is highway, I would think it wouldn’t be an issue. I’m rarely in boost on the highway.

My old truck was a 2012 SR5 DC that had a supercharger on it from day one, it had 130k with zero issues. I traded it for two reasons, needed more space because the family had grown and needed the space of the crew max and my engine had the cam tower leak.

I assume you work offshore? That being the case you can rest assured I doubt you will encounter problems with the truck sitting for so long, although the salt air might give the components a little dusting. Also I'm not sure which SC you are looking at for the $10k price tag. Mine was a $7k TRD upgrade but I believe I saw on the Magnusson website you can get the same one for closer to $4k. Mine gives only about 6-7lbs of boost and I'm making about 550hp. At least thats what the PO told me. Just food for thought.

Installed will will run around $8k total. Approximately 6500 for the SC and 1500 for install. Mine ended up being around 7600 total.

I have a TRD s/c in my 2012 Tacoma that was installed at purchase. 53k miles. It's towed our 22ft travel trailer all over Colorado and a few surrounding states and been my daily driver. The s/c gets worked hard during towing in the mountains and is why we finally bought a Tundra.

No issues. As we spend more and more time camping in the summer, I expect there would have been issues if the Tacoma was still the tow vehicle. Now it's happily retired and I'm hoping to hit that 200k club when my kid is driving it years from now.

Do you put on a partial radiator cover? I would think the after-cooler radiator would be easily susceptible to freezing at -30° at 65 mph.

    I never even considered that.
Coolant should be good to minus -40. I do not think wind can drop the temp of an object below ambiant air temp unless it is giving off moisture (like humans) but I could be wrong. Need a change of state like liquid to gas to sub cool. Too much science for my little brain. Please let me know if I am wrong.
