Been thinking about this problem I have with my new to me 2011 Tundra. Its kind of a PITA to load/unload certain sized objects out of the bed. Lighter stuff that would ride better up against the cab, like bags of trash, a nasty ass metal varmit trap, I have to hop into the bed to get it out of there.

I do miss my small 2004 Tacoma, 2wd/reg cab truck in that regard, you could reach right over the bed to load/unload stuff. For my short ass 5'6" self, it was the perfect hobbit sized truck lol. Not a lot of room in the cab, but then again I'm a small guy so it never bothered me, I had a tool box on it to act as a trunk as well.

Anyways, I've come across some inspiration with that shepard's hook my bird feeder hangs from. Why don't I have something like that in my truck??? You know, keep it in the floor of the cab under the rear seat, take it out to pull crap out of the bed that I can't reach.

Anybody else use something similar, fabbed up something like this, what are your suggestions??? I had a worn out broom, but the handle wasn't long enough to reach to the back of the bed, it was only like 4 or 5' long.

Your link sucks. Takes me to Wal-Mart's home page.

Also my granny did have one of those "grabber" poles, but it would be too short for this application. It was like 3' long, for short elderly people trying reach something they dropped on the floor.

    Not nearly enough room here!
This is one reason, I like Wheel to Wheel nerf bars, instead of Cab Length.

That would work grabbing stuff from the sides, but I need something long enough to reach the front from the back. My soft topper sides don't get rolled up until warm weather.

I've used a boat hook for years. Works great 90% of the time. Some things are not easily hooked and dragged.

I had a black metal floor lamp that I hated looked like a Shepard hook...took it apart, worked perfect. Till someone stole it !!

I am nearly unable to crawl into my truck with my fused back and knee replacement. Solution 1 was the Decked system and side opening cap:
    984CFDB4-6281-4C70-9ED4-CF07E7B9873C.jpg
The deck allows me to reach everything from the sides and the drawers extend the gear out.
Solution 2 is a combination of hooks and picker/grabbers. Some are home made some you buy. I can take some pictures tomorrow if you want

I wedge a black stained wood divider into the existing grooves and added a magnetic LED light under the cover. I know this doesn’t solve when I remove it to use the whole bed but most of the time I only use the last 1/4 and nothing slides back.

I've thought about that before as well. Right now I have some ugly black rusty nerf bars on my truck. Going to take them off and see if I miss them.

Kind of afraid I'm going to scratch the paint lifting stuff into the bed like that though.

Also thanks for the reply guys, might go to the boat store and buy the boat pole.

I'm old & with a beat up body.. so this was a necessity for me.

I took a 4' collapsing painters pole & made up a hook that screws into it at the end.
    only 2' long when collapsed.
then made mounts for my super-strut bed rail.

can also screw on different attachments for different needs
