    Congrats bro. I retired in 2012 after 21 yrs honorable service. You will probably go through a phase that is frustrating but it will pass. Be proud and stay positive.

    Congratulations and welcome to the other side.

    Please take some time to enjoy this half of your life. I did 24 years in the Navy and am 15 years in to a civil service career. I am not sure where the time goes, but, I can tell you this;

    Life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer to the end you get the faster it goes.

    Thank you for your service.

    Congrats on following through on your long term PLAN There is NOTHING like being retired, it’s awesome!! Waking up every day and still getting paid to do whatever you want.

    You're not a civilian, you're a veteran! I retired from the USAF in '95 and yes transition was 'different' the main thing seeing the undisciplined co-workers I had to be with but it only helps you shine above them. Good luck and enjoy.

    CONGRATS, I have one year left and just attended my first TAP briefing last week. Kind of nervous about the transaction since this is the only job I have ever done, besides farm hand work in high school

    Congratulations and THANK YOU!

    There are a LOT of companies (civilian and USG contractors) that seek out veterans. Why? Not to say that most non-veterans don't possess this, but a strong work ethic can be hard to find and "most" veterans have it. Quick story - My first civilian "boss" expected 55-hours a week from me. He got a minimum of 65-hours/week...and then there were the 90+ hour weeks during our busy season. It was almost funny when we first met and he wanted to instill "fear" in me to do my job or he would can me. I told him that the company couldn't shoot me, and that I wasn't going to do anything that could land me in jail, so if he ever saw the need to can me, JUST DO IT!...I'll just get another job. I replaced him a few years later. :)

    All my best to your future success!

    I retired in July 1985 - that means that I have been retired longer than I was on active duty ... and, yes, you do adjust to the civilian world ... ! I messed around for a couple of years (computer support for Wang Global ... 911 Operator ... etc.) ... finally went into government service as a Motor Carrier Safety Investigator ... moved from the Boston area back home to central Pennsylvania, went back to work for the government as a paralegal (employment law) ... retired in May 2013 ... now just bouncing around doing what my spousal unit wants me to do ...

    I am sorry I missed this thread when it was first posted. Congrats on the retirement. Thank you for your service. I am a Navy Vet and my son is just about to hit 10 years in the USAF.

    Although I retired from law enforcement and not the military, like Patriot said earlier the freedom to do what you want is awesome.
