Pretty interesting pic. I was a little surprised to see only 9 in the span of nearly 150 years.

That's cool. What's the one between the 30 40 krag and the 03 Springfield?

    Great pic.

I used to have several very nice garands, 03s and 03A3s.

Even had a very clean smith corona.

    Hard to see much detail but I would label as;
    Trapdoor Springfield
    30 40 krag
    ???
    03 Springfield
    Garand
    M1 carbine
    M14
    M16
    M4

We had an heirloom 30-40 krag that my wife’s great great uncle trained with in Texas where the family had a lumber company around the area of Yoakum.
We passed it on to our younger son, an Iraq combat veteran.

OK - I'll be the jerk here and point out them some of those are carbines and not rifles and that last one is not an M4. Its a 16" middy.

Still a cool collection though!

Actually all carbines are rifes, not all rifles are carbines. Rifle, by definition, is a long gun(as opposed to a pistol) with a rifled barrel.

That is not correct. All carbines are long guns (as are all rifles) but that does not make a carbine a rifle...

A carbine (/ˈkɑːrbiːn/ or /ˈkɑːrbaɪn/), from French carabine, is a long gun firearm but with a shorter barrel than a rifle or musket. Many carbines are shortened versions of full-length rifles, shooting the same ammunition, while others fire lower-powered ammunition, including types designed for pistols.

Tomato/tomato I guess? People tend to use terms however they feel like these days anyway just like the people who think a clip and magazine are the same thing.

Sadly no. Needed money and ended up selling just about everything I had at the time. Sometimes you have to do what needs to be done.

I honestly don’t care much for guns myself. Just found it interesting.
I like to do my killing up close.

    Very close. No4 mk2.

The old military rifles are a blast to shoot. Especially if you bring out multiple and everybody can compare and contrast. We all agreed that the Swiss k-31 was by far the smoothest action and nicest trigger of the bunch. While not the nicest and certainly not the most expensive of the bunch the M40 carbine version of the Mosin Nagant is also a blast to shoot. Is ridiculously loud with a giant muzzle blast.

My bad, M44 not N40. Here are a couple of pics of an m-44 after stripping the stock and repainting both wood and metal. 20161008_121512.jpg 20160905_173223.jpg 20161008_121512.jpg

Need a Smith Corona or Remington 03 Springfield and a Garand and I will be done with this genre. Well maybe a SMLE No1 Mk3. Most other vintage military don't interest me.
