I boogered up the axel threads pulling my wheel bearing hubs. Does anybody know what the pitch os the spindle is? I’m hoping I can get a rethreading tool on it and not have to replace the half axel.

I'd just file off the 1st few threads if you don't want pony up for a new axle.

Well, it’s not pretty....but that’s exactly what I did. They are 39mm 1.5 pitch, but a die for that is a bitch to find!

@dcsheppard what'd you use to pull the hub off the axle? I removed the 4 bolts holding the dust cover/hub to the spindle, but can't for the life of me get the hub to move more than 1/8"

I had to use some flooring chisels to separate the hub bearing assembly from the spindle. Once I got the 1/8" mark I used some big chisels to get it to completely separate.

I did give the axle shaft a pretty good smacking. I used a block of wood to protect the threads. I think the splines in the the hub bind up when pulling the hub assembly.

Man, I beat on it with a small sledge, pried on it with a chisel...and then Used a 6” puller and came off like butter. Definitely recommend the puller. I’m doing the other side tonight and will post pics.

I would be interested to see lots of pics. I've never had my axle apart, but I'm super curious. I almost want to just take mine apart just to see how it goes LOL

I used a 6” 3 jaw puller like this and once loose, it came right off.2A1F18F6-6551-4FC2-9471-EDB0AC2A2829.jpg

    Will a 7 ton (9") work?

That puller won't work. The center will just push on the axle stub. You need something that separates the hub from the spindle. I'm trying to figure how you made it work.

I loosened the hub first, to the 1/8" point or so, and then used the puller. Worked great. I'll get some pics and maybe video tonight when I do the other side. I hope this fixes the noise I've been hearing...replacing the drivers side did not.

Yep, your puller did exactly what my block of wood against the axle stub did.

You didn't really use the puller to remove the bearing assembly. Once the axle stub splines were free of resistance, the bearing assembly fell out.

I rented the same puller from Autozone, gonna give it a whirl this weekend when I have time.
