It’s clean. I know where everything is and I even have a little spot to work...

These sliders do look good and are local. Not too expensive either. Just curious what you changed on them @smslavin ...

Holy crap. That was a job but didn’t quite finish. Sound deadner is in. New speakers. All the wiring. I just have to connect it all. Having a few fitment issues with the box from tech12volts so I need to give James a call tomorrow. Might not have time to connect it all until later this week.

Little bit a work done tonight on the stereo.

    B95A2118-08FA-4AA0-9890-B4A92E675EB7.jpg

Tomorrow evening I’m going to wire up the harnesses, get the FiX connected and run the remote wire to the amp. Then I need to mount the new tweeters in the rear doors and connect the power. Hoping to be done by the end of the week.

I appreciate how detailed your thread is a long with the amount of good quality and tasteful parts you’ve installed on your own. Looking forward to joining you on the overland Tundra journey. Trading in my 2017 Tacoma DCSB for a 2018 SR5 Crewmax Cement. Didn’t quite complete all of what I wanted on the Tacoma however already put 45k miles on it since August last year. Looking forward to seeing what you do next. Thanks for all the good info.

With a little guidance from @SoCalDave, a little trimming and one or two obscenities, the compressor is finally mounted.

Have you thought about running lines and adding fittings to the Front and Rear bumper? Would keep you from having to pop the hood and give you air at the bed. Good for filling up bike tires, blowing out the bed, etc.

Do the HAM install next. Selfish on my part, I'm trying to decide if I want to do the same thing on my new truck that I did last time or try something different.

i have. i'm not sure what parts and pieces i'd need to put that together so, i need to do a little research. plus, if i'm doing that, i might as well cut out the stock spare and mount a 5 gallon air can in there...

hah. yea, i'll probably do the HAM. my youngest daughter has been on me about getting that installed as she wants to connect to the ISS and chat with the astronauts. i'll be getting a yaesu ftm-400. thinking about mounting the 'brain' in the center console with a few cut outs for ventilation. i don't use all of that space anyway. faceplate will go on the overhead console and replace the 'map' clip. i haven't taken it apart yet so i'm not totally sure how it'll work. NMO mount for the antenna in the roof. going to pick up two antennas. a comet ssb-1 for tighter trails since it's short and flexible. plus a comet ssb-5 for when i've got a little more space and need the extra range.

i ran the power cables across the front. you can go down in between the headlight and the plastic liner. then, if you pull the grill off, you'll see a cross bar that runs in front of the radiator at the bumper level. i've got a few other bundles running across there so i followed those with some new zip ties. on the driver side, go between the liner and the light and the battery is right there.

for the switch cable, that's quite a bit longer. i went up to the firewall then inside the drop down cover below the wipers. across the engine bay, out the other side and right to the switch pro. plenty of length.

on the switch pro, i have the compressor wired to switch 8. however, you do not need the 30 amp circuit, so you can just wire one connection.

let me know if you need some pictures or further explanation.

I'll echo everyone else and say I'm jealous of your truck, and appreciative of the detailed writeups. One thing nobody else touched on, though, was a tiny line from your original post: "as well as a backcountry mobile photo studio. I've got some plans for my photography business that I don't see a lot of people doing are being willing to do."

Care to elaborate on what your backcountry photo studio entails? Hauling a portable darkroom around to places off the pavement is why I bought my Tundra, so I'm curious about what you're up to! Especially since it affords you the ability to outfit your rig so nicely!

you sir, get more kudos than i can possibly give right now. 4x5 or 8x10? and you're developing tintypes in the field?!?

the chemicals needed for that aren't exactly the nicest things to lug around. especially in the back of a truck bouncing through the desert. i would jump at a chance to meet you somewhere and just watch you do your thing.

i can't elaborate too much right now but, i'm in the process of convincing my first client to take a chance on the idea.

Ha! Well, it isn't like it's nitro glycerin...not quite as combustible anyhow. Although I have considered rigging up something like a nitro transport of old to cushion the collodion - not for safety's sake, but to reduce shaking up sediment. I was having a bunch of trouble after bouncing out to Toroweap, so I stashed my collodion by the overlook for the next day.

    MG_3632.jpg
I have both 4x5 and 8x10 cameras, but my portable setup isn't really big enough for 8x10...so far. Need to work on making a bigger box now that I have the Tundra. (I had been working out of either my Ford Focus hatchback or my fiancée's ancient Ford Escape.)

Unfortunately I started an actual 9-5 job recently and don't get out as much as I would like, but I will let you know when I head north again. (When I think of "getting out there" it's to southeast Utah near the Colorado border. Also want to head back to Dinosaur National Monument and other Colorado locations slightly closer to you.)

I'm definitely interested to hear what you're up to, photographically, when you feel ok lifting your self-imposed embargo. :)
