Sorry I don’t have the Auburn. I just have looked into it and have had lockers and limited slips in the past. It won’t hurt if you just leave the auto LSD active until you need it off.

I live in Houston, almost never snows, and all flat pavement.
I have a 2wd, it was my first truck and I never intended going off road.
3yrs later, 8 inch lift and 37s... I love my truck. I take it to the beach and zero issues.
I do have the auburn which helps.
I do not regret getting the 4x2, BUT ,next truck will be 4x4 only so I can dig my rear tires into the sand and flex my muscles that way I can point & laugh at every 4x2 owner...... and grin liked I cured cancer.

A brand of Limited slip differentials. Actually besides an ARB air locker Auburn is the only company im aware of that makes a limited slip for the tundra.

I have a 2wd tundra in Colorado. And I regret it just about every day. The first couple weeks I had it I trued to take it just up some of the back roads to the north of me, it wasn’t having it.

OP, first, you're comparing a POS Dodge to the much better and far superior Toyota.

My Tundra spends 95% of it's life on the street. But the 2 or 3 times I've used 4x4, it was definitely worth it and needed. It's still stock as far as tires and suspension too.

It's one of those things that's best to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. Pushing a full size truck that's stuck in sand is not fun.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the 2wd truck ride a little nicer than the 4wd ones???

I might be wrong I think it rides about the same, you don’t have the 4wd ingadged all the time. My is the first I have owned love how it rides, I just love my Tundra.

I was thinking they have a slightly different suspension setup, maybe a bit firmer. I know I test drove like 4 or 5 different 2wd trucks before I bought my 4wd truck(price was right, 4wd is a bonus), I know the 2wd rode smoother on the test drive. Of course my truck has obnoxious Firestone Mud Terrain tires on it, and they were inflated to 45psi, let some air out of them and the truck does ride a lot nicer if you hit a big pothole or expansion joint on the interstate.

My 2nd Gen was a 2010 Tundra DC 2WD, loved it but when I bought my 2017 Tundra CM I went with a 4X4, did I need it, No! I bought it because I never owned a 4X4! So I just bought it because I wanted too, if I need to go off road and play or for emergencies, I can and I can do it in a DAMN good Truck without worrying about things falling apart like other Makes! I do run it every now and just to keep her cranked!

I’d take a 2x Tundra over a new 4 x 4 Dodge, Chevy, Ford. Shit at this point I’d take any Toyota in the lineup over one of those. I guess it goes without saying unless I need 1 ton.

YEP^^^^ and getting a 2WD stuck up in the mountains on an old dirt mining road on a Sunday afternoon after all the 4WD guys have headed home for the weekend wouldn't be much fun either.

I mean if you think about it its a dodge and from my experiences its gonna break lol. I got rid of my 2013 dodge 1500 and for the few years that I owned it if it werent for the warranty I would have spent more on fixing the truck then I paid for it. By the time I got rid of it I was on transmission #4, motor #2, rear end #2 and front axle #3. I will never own another dodge. I got rid of it with 86k miles and I had all of those problems. Oh and did I mention that it caught on fire?

I drove a friends 15 Limited from San Diego to LA and I can tell you it rides much different than my 2wd(both trucks on 295/70/18's). My truck feels much lighter, faster and more responsive than the 4wd. He's had his since 15 and has used it exactly ZERO times. Living in LA I do 100% street driving so for me a 4wd makes no sense. If you know you'll be using 4wd then its a no brainer otherwise I prefer the ride quality of the 2wd.

This is true for me also. But I do like to adventure to our local mountains year round. It’s nice driving past the snow chain checkpoints when everybody is chaining up. Also it opened up fun places to go that most two wheel drives could go but there’s always a chance you may need four-wheel-drive. This is my first 4 x 4 and I absolutely love it! I like not being nervous about getting stuck.

I say buy what you need. No way in hell would I have a 4wd if I didn't need it.

Personally, I have to use my 4wd on my truck to park any of my trailers on my current property with dry dirt. I haven't had the pleasure of attempting this in a wet environment. I won't even get into the snow we get.

I lived in southern CA and never had the need for a 4wd vehicle. I went to the beach, mountains, snowboarding at Heavenly with a 2wd sports car. Never had an issue.

There is nothing better than having a 4x4 pickup truck. I have two Tundras, one 2wd and the other 4x4. They both cost me the same amount of money to maintain over a given 4 year period. As for the initial cost at purchasing, I only spent approximately $2K more for my 4x4. The most important thing here is that in 4 years of owning my two Tundras, I have only had to do regular maintenance. Your brother’s biggest mistake is to buy a DODGE to begin with .

I have a 2013 Ram 1500 4x4 and a 2012 F150 4x4. They are all high maintenance trucks. I ended up giving them to each of my sons who are both in high school. They both work part-time, just to be able to keep them trucks running .
