I am looking at getting a trifold cover but I need some help figuring out what will work for me. I think I narrowed it down to the Bakflip MX4, Undercover Ultra Flex or Leer Trilogy X2T.

I am looking for a cover that will work with the bed rail system in the stock location, will not leak, security, allow me to open and close the tailgate without having to lift up the cover, esily able to take the cover off for full use of the bed, and a cover that will allow me to put some bikes on top. I also want to run a bed divider so if I put groceries in the back they will not slide all the way forward.

The MX4 seems proven, but they make you lower the bed rail system and it seems the brackets are pretty flimsy. I if I lower the bed rails I could not use the Toyota bed divider, so I would need a solution for that. It also seems that it is 99% water proof, but can leak.

The Ultra flex keeps the rails in the stock location, but makes it hard to move accessories around on the bed rail as the cleats have to slide in from the back. I could still probably preposition some of the nuts to the anchors and just unscrew the anchors and screw them into the other prepositioned nuts on the rails.

Both of these seem to leak a little water and they both use a cable that can be grabbed with a coat hanger to release, making them not as secure.

I can't find much info on the Trilogy X2T for the Tundra. I know it is a fairly new product, but it does not use drain tubes and seems to be more water proof then the other two. I can't find any info with how it works with the bed rail system, how it installs it seems like it would be more secure as it has latched that need to be manipulated to unfold.

With any solution, I am trying to figure out how to put bikes on top of the cover. I don't want to open up the stake pockets, but will if I need be. The X2T seems like it might block the stake pokets, but can't find many pictures of it.

I found this post on F150forum.com with some ideas, but looking for other solutions.

    https://www.f150forum.com/f7/help-bakflip-g2-any-folding-cover-bike-rack-212309/#post2803227

I think my first pick may be the X2T, then the Ultra flex.

Does anyone have any insite what might work best for me or any more info on the X2T?

None yet but plenty to come.
In my experience all will leak a little especially the corners. Aside from the opening aspect of the cable draw back what you could do is go with the flex or mx4 which lay flat and bolt Thule or Yakima tracks to the bed rails and add any bike carrier you want. I have done that before to trucks and guys have loved it. But it depends which is more important for you is the opening feature or leaks as I think the undercover and Bak will seal better

@Mootball What would be the best way to bolt the tracks to the bed rails? I don't mind going through the plastic caps but would like to avoid drilling holes in the metal portion of the bed rails. Are there any holes under the plastic caps where the rails can be anchored to?

To have any strength you would want to go through metal. That being said treat the holes with some marine grade type silicone to prevent rust in the future and a thin layer of foam in between the truck rail and track rail. If you need help finding all the parts I have some friends that sell the parts needed that work at a local retail store that would shop them if you wanted to go that route.

I had the MX 4 installed on my 2018. Worst cover I have ever owned. Still hasn’t even laid down flat and the dealer can’t get response from BAK. Now I’m trying to see what customer service they have. I’m certain is defective and not usual or normal but to date I wouldn’t recommend.

@OmahaOmaha I ended up buying the Leer. I like it, but here are the issues I have run into.

First, you can really one get them through their dealers. The only place I could get a hold of near me was 45 minutes away, and only open during the day M-F. I eventually found one online that was a little cheaper then what the dealer quoted me with free shipping to my house.

When it arrived the box was a bit beat up. The cover was fine, but the issue I ran into was that the styrofoam packaging was broken apart in some placed due to the shipping damage, and all the little bits ended up getting under the seals where they stick to the cover. I bought some new 3M weather seal and have been replacing them slowly when I get time. I could not find the right size seal at home depot so I have to cut it down the middle. A bit of a PITA. I would expect this would not be an issue if you went to a dealer.

When I originally installed it, the seal on the tailgate didn't look like it would have enough coverage so I slid the rail and everything a bit back from where the manual specifies. I do get some leaks, but not too bad. When I get the seals all replaced, I will reinstall the rail at the specified location in the manual to see if I get less leaks in the back, but due to the fitment of the gaps in the tailgate, I don't think it will ever be leak free. What I think is happening, is that I have the rail for the cover a bit too far back (again not in the specified location in the manual) and that some water gets on them and rides the rail then drips down, instead of just dripping down by the gaps in the tail gate. I hope moving the rail forward a bit will resolve this issue.

I was going off of the pictures on this tread on Tacoma World. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/leer-trilogy-x2t.524488/ but my cover does not sit as far back on the tailgate as on the Tacoma. I was a bit disappointed by this. The Tundra cover also does not have the same seal on the tailgate as on the Tacoma.

The rail does partially cover the OEM bed rail, but I bought some brackets off ebay that I think will work for tie down if I can make a short stand off. The OEM cleats that come with the deck rail will not work on the 2 side deck rails with this bed.

Over all I do like this cover. it is not flat like the MX4, but I also don't have drain tubes that I need to worry about. When I get the rails and cover moved around and the side seals fixed, I will see what I can do about the tailgate seal. I just hate to spend this much money and have to tweak it. If the dealer did the install, it might be different? I don't really know.

I will try and update this thread with pictures at some point.

I know a lot of time has passed, and the OP has already bought a bed cover. But for anyone still researching who comes across this thread, @KB Voodoo makes clips and rails and racks that fit over bed covers, and are compatible with Toyota bed rails, or can be used without bedrails.

I have the under cover flex ultra. I spent the extra money on the ultra as the under side of the cover is carpeted and finished nicely. The “carpet” and extra material seems to deaden sound and add some heft. The ultra also includes 2 led light strips with battery packs and auto shut off feature for both sides, very handy! Not a drop of water after driving through brutal FL summer storms. Funny I actually have 2 of them, the first arrived with 2 small dents from shipping, they let me keep the damaged one as the carrier did not want to pay for return shipping and they sent me a new one.

I will soon be posting the damaged unit for pick up no cost, yes free!
