I added (2) JL 10's and a JL 500w amp. Some music sounds great, and other sounds so boomy is terrible. I'd like to replace the factory speakers but keep getting conflicting reports of what size the current factory speakers are...

Will JK C1 6x9's fit in the front dor and 6.5's in the rear door?

Can I get by without running an additional amp?

Most people put 6.5's in all the doors, this would be your best bet especially since you've already got some thump.

You will want an amp to power the door speakers.

Look at Crutchfield they have best info on vehicle specific speakers that I have found. Also they include adapters and wire harness. I am looking at JBLs but Kickers in same price range handle more power. Fronts are bigger than rear for OEMs anyway.

I've been looking at Crutchfield. I do have a question about the dash speakers. It shows only 1 fits and it's about $700 for a set. You know any others that will fit or are stock dash speakers ok?

Not really worth it to mess with the dash speakers. Most people install a set of components with tweeters in the sail panels, and either remove the dash speakers, or leave them alone.

I have. I think I am going the less expensive option.
Just adding front and rear speakers with an amp just shy of $450.00

Polk Audio front components and rear with kicker Key amp.
Crutchfield state the 6.5" do not fit the rear doors. Just looking for folks who have installed rear 6.5

Would you replace the dash speakers with your tweeters with your components set or put them in the sail piece?

    Thanks

Definitely do components with tweeters in sails. I got the Infinity Kappa 60CSX when Crutchfield had on sale. I still have factory speakers hooked up in dash. Will probably just leave them. Tweeters fit easily about 1" from bottom of sail. Crutchfield is place to get speakers. They provide adapters and PNP harness for speakers. You will need the adapters in order to clear the support bar in door. Factory speakers have very thin magnets. Aftermarkets will have a much deeper magnet.

According to Crutchfield the Kicker KS components will fit in the front door, but I've read a couple threads on here where people say they can't get them to fit. Is it just the bracket that Crutchfield supplies that lets it fit or based on the specs does it just look like it'll fit, but it really won't when I try to install them?

You need the adapter so the larger magnets in speakers clear the brace in the door. If you can compare the depth to the Infinity Kappa 60CSX that I have. They fit fine with adapter. Factory speakers have a very thin magnet

New doors speakers aren't going to solve the issue of your subs sounding boomy, you have to solve the issue of the poor headunit signal either with a sound processor or new head unit

Just put the tweeters in the sail panel and disconnect the dash ones. If you aren't comfortable cutting a hole in your existing sail panel, you can buy the limited ones that are made for tweeters. If i remember, i think i paid $40 for them.

6.5's will fit in the front and the back with speaker adapters. I used the ones from tech12volts. I cant remember if i took a picture of the rear door speakers, but check my build log for some pics (link in my signature).

My component 6.5's speakers from Tech12 came with the Toyota sail panels for the tweeters...
