Definitely. I was first trying to decide with replacing the bulb in my current housing with high-end LEDs from GTR lighting or replacing them all together with an aftermarket flood complete kit from Rigid. Now I'm leaning towards going with the 2018 factory lights because they will match color output. I'm waiting to see if Toyota changes them in the new TRD options.

I still like the idea of aftermarket flook lights so I may and a set below the windshield (above the hood) sometime later.

Thats the plan for now anyway. :)

Did you guys see this video? They compare the Tundra OEM LED fog lights to XB and mentioned OEM are brighter but did mention XB are the best choice even though OEM were brighter.

Going with Rigids or BD squadrons is the be$t option I guess, you can ask @BlueBottle about his experience with the BD

Interesting, I never heard of BD, but I'm still learning (first truck). @BlueBottle any wisdom you could share?

However, I went with Rigid or BD squadrons floodlights to replace the current fog lights I probably couldn't use them as the current fog lights are designed - for street use because they would be too bright. Is this accurate? If so, they would most likely only be used in off-road applications which sucks from an aesthetical standpoint. This is one reason I'm thinking of the 2018 OEM LED fog lights to replace my current fog lights - I could have them always on. Then I could purchase the Rigids or BD squadrons floodlights and mount them on either side below my windshield. Thoughts?

Yes if you check @BlueBottle build thread he mentioned they are too bright for street use and really they are he have a good pictures to show the output, one of the best trucks around here.

Seems like the plan B is the best option, mount the BD SQs or Rigids floods in the hood like many others here that will be a killer setup for off-roading

I'll go review @BlueBottle previous post - thanks for the info and thanks for the reassurance. :) Now I just need to confirm Toyota won't change the 2018 LED fog lights for the TRD release before pulling the trigger on the replacement fog lights.

Although, someone did say to me that it's better to mount floodlights where the current fog lights are and not above the hood and instead use the space above the hood (below the windshield) for longer distance or spotlights becuase its a higher mounting spot... if that's the case I would be doing the opposite going with my plan. :(

Am I reading this correctly? If I want to keep the amber DRL but still have the new headlights I wouldn't need to add the DRL harness?

Baja designs will be too bright to run on the streets. Rigid makes street legal dogs that are brighter than Morimotos or oem. You can also wait for the 2019 rigid fogs to come to the market.

Thanks @BlueBottle - that's some good information. I didn't know rigid would be releasing their 2019 line soon. Hopefully, they will continue to support the replacement of OEM fog lights. Now I have to hurry up and wait to see what rigid does and/or what Toyota does for the TRD's, but based on your feedback I'm leaning towards replacing my 2017 stock fog lights with the (street legal) rigid fog lights. Need to do more research.

Might be a dumb question, but I just got around to aiming my lights properly. And now it feels like they’re too low and aimed on the ground. Maybe I just got used to them being aimed too high? It seems like they only light up the street about 50 feet ahead of me. Does that sound right?

that is incorrect. the driver side should not be aimed lower than the passenger side, they should be even. i usually just go out to a flat spot, adjust my headlights on how far out i want to see and go from there. i have never really used the 2-4" drop rule.

Make sure to be at least 25FT from the wall when doing this and in a level surface

You're saying that the BDs are too bright to be used on the road, but you are running the pros. Were the sports too bright for the road too? From the photos in your build thread, the BD sports looked like they would be fine for on road use.

And the most important part before aiming your headlights, leveling system know has to be set to 0 “ZERO” to get a correct aiming. Zero is the default height then you can reduce high going up the numbers in the leveling system dial.

I will just do that to readjust them cause I feel like I can’t see. I was comparing the light pattern on the road to other cars and trucks and theirs were about the same as mine distance wise. Unless everybody I was running into all had their headlights aimed too low as well haha

They are both too bright for the road. Sports are a little better for streets but I still wouldn’t use them. Some people do. I only use them off highway or if no one is around. They look ok in the photos but if you stand in front of your truck it will blind you.

Just finished installing the led headlights on my 2014 Platinum. I used the new harness from ihacker that does not require the motocontrol. Thanks to his instructions and new plug and play harness, I completed the install in 1 3/4 hours. The hardest part of the install was getting the connectors separated from the original headlights. Now I need to replace the original yellow fog lights. Thanks to ihacker and Roman for making this project easy for a novice to complete.

Concerning the LED connections on the 2018 headlights. Does the relay under in the cab switch the low and high LED wires on the headlight? In other words.

When 12v is applied to the high LED wire on the headlight connector, the low LED wire is off? (Switched by the relay)
When 12v is applied to the low LED wire on the headlight connector, the high LED wire is off? (Switched by the relay)

Or when 12v is applied to the high LED wire on the connector (through the relay) the low LED wire on the connector still has 12v on it too?

Everything is controlled by the factory DRL system and the under dash relay (Gray wire)

When 12V is flowing to DRL High, No current flow through DRL Low wire,

When headlight is ON factory DRL is turned off and then the parking lights (previously Amber) supply 12V to the DRL Lo wire.

Ok. So the under dash relay supplies 12v to the high LED's. And your using the relay because the "Gray wire" can't source enough current.

Not really, Gray wire isn’t a hot wire, is a ground signal from Body ECU and its purpose is to control the factory DRL system, the relay is grounded by gray wire to allow 12V ACC to the DRL Hi wire.
