Well Im cheesed with Canadian Tire.
Not once but twice had a rifle pointed at me.
Once by a customer and once by the counter jockey. Both were dicking with the bolt action on the rifle. All I could do was shake my head and ask if they were fucken serious.
I feel this is extremely unsafe practice. They have been emailed regarding this incident.

There is a good possibility depending on their response to the matter I may never return to a Canadian Tire store.

That's when I ream the customer out for being a fucktard and then get a manager involved to deal with the employee. It's CT though...not a bastion of high IQ and excellent service.

I had to go to Calgary on that day, got there super late (11pm) and they were just hauling the plane down McKnight to get to the hangers. Had 3 or 4 cop cars escorting it, luckily I was going the other way and didn't get stuck in the traffic caused by a plane being towed down the road

I've been on the other side of the counter in a real gun shop. As a salesman and manager, I had no issue telling off a customer for poor muzzle control. Politely at first, then slightly less politely if they did it again which resulted in their touching privileges revoked. Also as a manager, I took reports of poor muzzle control etc very seriously. We even taped a target to an upper corner on a back wall for people to aim at when they wanted to shoulder a gun.

I hope they get back to you. Let us know what they say if they do.

Ill be posting what they say. Is there a standard policy that firearm retailers need to follow. These jokes were willy nilly pointing all over the place.

As far as licencing and handling guns go, not officially. The only official policy is that you must provide a valid PAL or R/PAL in order to purchase firearms and ammunition. As for handling firearms, each store has their own policies. Some I've been in want to see your licence before letting you handle the gun, but there's no actual law requiring them to do so. When I worked the counter, the only time I would ask for a licence before allowing someone to handle a gun was if I got a bad vibe from them.

However under section 87(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada it's an offence to point a gun at another person without lawful excuse, loaded or not. Being an idiot while handling one in store is not a lawful excuse. I liked tossing that one, code reference and all at people that got lippy when I told them off. They tuck tail and wander off sheepishly real quick.

    http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/C-46/section-87.html

    Pointing a firearm
    • 87 (1) Every person commits an offence who, without lawful excuse, points a firearm at another person, whether the firearm is loaded or unloaded.

    • Marginal note: Punishment
      (2) Every person who commits an offence under subsection (1)
      • (a) is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years; or

      • (b) is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction.

I did not get a look at what truck was towing it, but I'm 99% sure it wasn't the one in the picture. I was a little blinded by all the cop lights, and a little baffled by a plane being towed down the road lol. One of the very few situations where I wouldn't be paying the truck the most attention

Fuck that. Camping on a long weekend...in Alberta? Are you nuts? Every jackwagon will be out there smoking pot, getting drunk and ripping around on quads ruining the peace and quiet. :frusty::frusty::frusty:

Yeah...I'm grumpy about it. Not a fan of crowds. LOL. We'll be kicking around home for the most part but probably making a trip to a very remote high mountain lake near Tumbler Ridge, BC. Gotta go deep into the backoods in some unknown areas to get away from the yahoos. :burnrubber:

Whereabouts in AB are you? Up here in GP, there's maybe a dozen decent designated camping spots and maybe another few dozen good unofficial spots within a 2 hour drive, including just over the line in BC. They fill up fast and thick. If you can get a 5th wheel in somewhere, it'll be full guaranteed.

We usually head all the way into Tumbler Ridge, then off the beaten path so some hidden gems only the few BC locals tend to know about. Usually quiet there, but we pass a few campgrounds and they're always packed.

I only get down there once in a blue moon. Way too long a drive to be regular. 10 hours ish. I think it's been about 5 or 6 years since I was down there last. Family gatherings tend to end up central around the Red Deer area, as there's family as far north as La Crete and then others from BC, Manitoba and Sask.

The woman and I have been talking about possibly moving at some point and the Lethbridge or Medicine Hat areas are on the short list. I love the north country, but I miss the good fishing. There's acceptable fishing here, but it's thin and nothing compared to what the Bow, Oldman and K-Country regions offer. The trout fishing is phenomenal there.

Sorta! Staying at a friend's place in the Porkies north of Pincher Saturday, then throwing on the backpack and going bear hunting west of there with my 14 year old for the rest of the weekend. Should be good!

What about you and yours? Any plans?

Ya gots to get you a good backpack and burn some boot rubber. Even long weekends are quiet in backpacking country. ;)

Might just hang out close by and do a day of fishing with the nephew. Bunch of stuff came up and Ive been fairly lazy this time off....rightfully so. :D
