I love my truck. That goes without saying. My only complaint is drivers side blind spots. The seat backs are so high that there's no good way to check your blend spots besides trying to look through the space between the headrest and they door upright. Just venting. Anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions? Removing the headrests in a 3rd Gen isn't an option that'd look dumb. Maybe tow mirrors. What are your thoughts.

Not the main reason, but one of the reasons I went with tow mirrors was for the convex lower mirror. It does show more and may eliminate the blind spot, but I still do a shoulder check to make sure. So my practice hasn't changed, habit I guess.

OEM Toyota ones. They were on my list of things I would like to buy and a mint set popped on CL close to home so I picked them up. They make backing in my garage and driving through the ATM more of a pain haha. I also can't stand the flat passenger side mirror. It's for judging distance while towing I guess, but for everyday driving I hate it.

I contemplated putting the Sport mirrors back on.

+1 on the tow mirrors. Narry a blind-spot in sight (pardon the pun)

A little of this and a little of that.
I think I rely too much on my BSM since I've purchased this truck. I've gotten used to only looking at my mirror indicator to tell me if there is a vehicle in my blind spot. Probably not the best way to tell as the BSM could fail and I could pull into someone in either blind spot of my truck. If I do turn my head quickly to check the blind spot, all I see is my truck anyway.

Stick-on convex mirrors... I use something like this attached to the lower inside of my side mirrors:

    https://www.amazon.com/Blind-Spot-M...91304638&sr=1-14&keywords=auto+convex+mirrors

it eliminates the blind spots. and you can see the ground right next to the truck so you know when you are centered in a parking space :)

How do they work with motorcycles?

Today on a narrow road a Dodge Ram was pulling a ghost trailer and had his dumb tow mirrors out all the way for no reason. I was secretly wishing another Ram doing the same thing was driving right behind me. Smack!

The BSM actually works pretty good with motorcycles. It has become is crummy crutch though. Handy, but sets you up for false confidence. ALWAYS check your six...errr...8 and 4? Check your 0730 and 1630.

Oh hell, just drive like yer serpersed ter

I thought that this was going to be about how the mirror, combined with the A-pillar, make a pretty good sized blind spot. But maybe that's just me.

I'm kind of on the fence in regards to the BSM. I've not driven a vehicle with them, but my observations are that other drivers seem to be using them to indicate that it's okay to change lanes when there still isn't a safe enough space in front of the vehicle they're moving in front of. As a commercial vehicle operator, I like to have some room between myself and the vehicle in front of me. What I've noticed is that many other drivers, since the proliferation of the BSM, flick their vehicles into the next lane as soon as that indicator goes out. When this happens, I'm lucky to be able to see the road between us. Not comfortable.

Agree. BSM is secondary security tool to make sure the lane is clear. I still rely on my peepers to make sure the lane is clear and use BSM as a second confirmation. My wife started relying too much on it and told her to stop; always look back. But BSM does come in handy when the weather is bad and the windows are covered in snow. And especially here in Denver as you lose ALL lane recognition when roads are just wet.

In my Tacoma the stick-on round mirrors really helped. With the Tundra I have the tow mirrors and I still have a small blind spot on the passenger's side (note: with mirrors pulled in i.e. not extended out for towing). I have the bottom mirror more focused on where the TT wheels would be but it also catches the blind spot right next to the truck (most important IMO). The main blind spot for me is about the end of my wheel well and about half a lane over - perfect for accidentally cutting someone off if you don't turn your head or lean forward to look at a different angle.

I think with the size of these trucks it's hard not to have some kind of blind spot.

Another vote for the stick-on convex mirrors. I have them on all my vehicles, including my work vehicle. It takes a short time to get used to them and to trust them. Once you do, you won't want to drive another vehicle without them.

A little of this and a little of that.
They work just fine, plus with "back up" warning (or whatever it's called) it's a real benefit if you ask me.

The higher trim levels with BSM weren't in my price range, hopefully my next truck will be fully loaded.

Anyone know if there is an actual glass blind spot mirror? I have seen lots of plastic, but so far no glass.
    Thanks!

TRD rear sway bar, console organizer, stubby antenna, LEDs for cabin, cargo, license plate, and reverse lights, power-fold mirrors, Westin nerf bars, full stereo upgrade. Future - color-match grill surround/bulge, mirror caps, handles, plasti-dip badges.
Old thread, but I have been lurking around and looking for information about modding the BSM system.

Here's a sure way to almost eliminate blind spots:

Sit in the seat with your head back and eyes forward, like you would be when driving comfortably.
Adjust the mirrors so that you can just see the side of the truck when glancing with peripheral vision.
Now kick each mirror out a touch further.

You shouldn't be able to see the truck at all when glancing. Why would you need to? If you are moving slowly and parking or trying to squeeze through a tight space, you can always lean left or right to see the sides of the truck.

I've been doing this for years and find that when a vehicle is approaching from behind me on either side, I can just see it without turning my head once it disappears from the mirror.

this totally works. picked this trick up when i had my FJ since you couldn't see anything out of the back of that thing. visibility was non-existent.

I don't have a problem with blind spots. I just adjust my mirrors properly. I have taught the kids how to do the same

It’s really not bad at all, to me at least, try driving an fj cruiser which I heard has a giant bpillar making it the worst for blind spots. Or join the Army and drive this........
