Great information. This old school, hands-on craft is slowly fading and it's sad to see that. I am a little uncomfortable that you've been checking out my grandma's butt though....:p

Extra weight carry in the bed and on the tongue of your trailer. WAY extra. Like double. The truck has the horse power to "pull" a lot of weight, not too much capacity to "carry" the weight. Hence the ass implants.

This is an interesting way of doing it, surprised more guys don’t do it. One of the guys on the 2nd gen builds section is doing a 2 in 1 pack, taking another set of stock leaves and cutting em down to add to his current pack. Almost sounds like the Chevy 63 method that’s used on Tacoma’s.

I hauled 9000 pounds of rail road ties up from Anchorage the other day. No sag what so ever and trailer stays level no matter how its loaded. Blows everyones mind when I load something up and the ass end dose not bottom out.

The ride is smooth as glass loaded or empty. Sway bar is defiantly a must have too.

Interesting thread. I like a lot about my Tundra, but recently have been seriously considering dumping it and getting a HD so that I can have more payload. I don't really tow much - I just haul heavy stuff from time to time. I'll have to look into this more. Thanks for posting.

Same issue, great truck and tons of PULLING power but no carry power.

They lighten up trucks today to get the MPG numbers. First thing that they cut back on is the heavy steel. Toyota still has the heaviest frames and suspensions out there but its not enough to carry a lot of load. Doubling the leafs took care of all of that.

I was scared to death that the truck would ride like a bucking bronco but its more like a bullet train on rails now. Unbelievable how nice this thing rides.

The thing that sucks is even though your not sagging your “quote on quote” overloaded if DOT goes off your door. I tow a lot and i push it right to my limit. The ticket here is nasty if your over by 1 pound.

Pretty sweet to see how our trucks have no problem towing it though

LOL, you don't even do an annual inspection on vehicles here in Alaska. As far as over loaded the truck is rated to pull 10k. Suspension is more than capable of the load on the trailer and tounge and dose not exceed the hitch rating STOCK. (Hitch is also welded on)

My trailer is rated for 12k and my tires are rated for 6k each. Im not over loaded at 9000 pounds.

They are going after dumb asses that are endangering the public with cheap trailers, tires, and with trucks that are not set up correctly and are exceeding the max towable and hitch rating. All equals = have no sense what so ever when it comes to setting up correctly and are cheap asses. I hope that they bust all of them.

I also have top of the line trailer breaks on both axels. Pulling safely is great, stoping safely is mandatory.

This is about engineering and common sense. Not some made up drama queen shit that dose not consider all of the FACTS.

It is a good point - the GVWR is whatever your sticker says it is. No matter what you do to beef up components to try and handle the load better. The Engineer in me believes that you could safely upgrade some components to allow for a higher payload. But, that won't matter squat under inspection.

Im not after a greater payload. The stock 10k is all that I am interested in when I need it. Bone stock rear suspension just can't cut it no matter what you do on loading and even using a leveling hitch. Toyota had perfect conditions when they posed up the towing numbers and who knows how much time they spent setting up for it.

My truck will do it all now no questions asked, no messing around, and no bullshit.

Hear ya go. Took some drone videos and pics of the cabin and the homestead couple of day ago. Snow is about all gone but the ground is still frozen. Turns to quick sand when you dig and it thaws out.
