I've got a 2006 TRD DC that I really like and it's been a great truck (other than undercarriage rust, yes toyota sprayed the frame) The truck is running great with 133,000 miles on it. Since it still holds some value I'm considering trading it in towards a 2010 DC w/60,000 miles.
The question is for those of you that have owned both generations do you have any regrets/disappointments when you moved to the gen 2?
I know there is more HP in a gen 2, but that's not a big deal to me.
    Thanks

They are entirely different trucks. I had an 06' cm and it was a shopping cart compared to the next gen. My truck was in excellent condition and I was debating keeping or trading it in too. I ended up with a new 17 CM and the room for the family is unbelievable! The gen 1 is a great truck, and because my trade in value was still good I traded mine in with 155k and got 13k for it!!! My 1st deciding factor was test driving my buddy's gen 2 13' DC RW. I couldn't believe how much more room there was. The power upgrade was definitely a nice thing for me too. It is definitely worth it IMO.

My work truck is a 2002 Tundra that I purchased in 2004, it's a smooth riding 4.7L 4WD truck that has been ultra reliable. A few months ago I picked up a 2007 5.7L RWD tundra, it is my daily driver fun truck. Two very different trucks, I like both of them and I wouldn't want to choose one over the other. I like the fact that the '07 has a timing chain that doesn't require much maintenance, whereas the timing belt on the '02 does need to be replaced every 100K.

    156K on the '02, and 277K on the '07.

I have both, Newer gen 2 and 3 owners will probably flame me but lots of dissapointments on the 2007 i have. Toyota decontented the Gen 2 vs Gen 1 and depending on your trim level continued to decontent in 2010 and even more in 2014. Small things like dual sun visors gone, 2010 lost key ring illumination glove box light, 2014 lost driver side grab handle storage boxes secong glove box etc etc.
They drive differntly also, The Gen 1 feel much more athletic, Gen 2 feel cumbersome in comparison and is alot bigger, harder to park, weave in traffic etc.
Because your Gen 1 has frame rust I would sell it while it still holds some value and get the newer truck just understand some of the things you like in yours no longer exist in a gen 2, but then some of the things in a gen 2 were never available in a gen 1.

    Not nearly enough room here!
I had a 06 Tundra DC 4.7 V8 4X4. Sold it to a friend at work and he's happy with it. Bought a 2010 DC 5.7 that has almost 80,000 issue-free miles on it. Both trucks were bought new. The 06 did everything I needed it to do and served us well. One thing I've noticed about gas mileage, this 2010 with nearly 100 HP more gets maybe 2 MPG less than the 06. Nick T is mistaken about the 2010's loosing key ring illumination and glove box light, my 2010 SR5 has both.

I had an '04 (Gen 1) and went to a '16 (Gen 3) by way of a Nissan Titan (big mistake). They are two completely different trucks.

thanks for the input guys, I am well aware of the physical differences between the trucks, I just know that for some folks the gen 1's hit a sweet spot between size, dependability and performance.

I miss my '02 only when driving Forrest trails to find accesses to go fishing. It was the perfect size for the trails. My 2nd gen is too wide. I hate smacking it with overhanging brush or branches.

I was never impressed with mpg either, so I wasn't disappointed when I got my 2nd gen.

Other than that, I rarely miss my 1st gen.

Yes, my Gen 1 did hit a sweet spot for me size wise. If it was 4 x 4 I might still be driving it. My wife drives a Gen 1 Sequoia and will until the body falls apart. She loves the thing. I asked if she wanted a new one and she said no. Wish I would have got her some color other than fading white.

I avoided buying a 2nd generation truck because of it's immense size, but then I discovered the RCSB. Even though it's wider, the wheelbase and overall length of the RCSB are slightly less than the same measurements on my '02 RCLB. My RWD 5.7L '07 RCSB is almost 700 lbs heavier than my 4WD 4.7L '02 RCLB ... the turning radius of the RCSB is much tighter than it is with my '02.
