    Good Evening All,

Though now would be a good a good time to go ahead and log the build thread on my 2014 1794 Tundra. I spent close to a year looking for the right one and it was well worth the wait. I am used to driving German sports sedans and coupes so I definitely wanted 1794 or Platinum Edition Tundra so that I'd have all the features I had grown accustomed to but still have the utility of a truck. Crewmax Cab was also a necessity since I like having the space for longer trips. I live in the Atlanta area but like to go deep sea fishing and vacationing on the Gulf & Atlantic Coast and wanted something spacious and comfortable to drive down in.

My goals for this build are to keep this truck as comfortable and user friendly as possible. I do like the ride of the stock suspension, very comfortable for a large truck. I may level it in the future but do not want to put a massive lift and large tires on it, not that I have anything against that but I've driven trucks like that and they aren't exactly the most comfortable nor practical especially for what I want out of this truck.

I have a pretty solid foundation to start and build on, truck is very clean, no extensive modifications with the exception of a Bak Revolver X2 bed cover, Bed Rug, trailer brake controller, spray in bed liner (possibly factory or Line-X), & a front clear bra. Other than that the truck is stock, has been dealer maintained its entire life, lived its entire life in the southeast, and has had no accidents.

I am looking to upgrade the current wheels to the factory style BBS wheels, being a German car owner I have a love for BBS wheels and think the 20" option really compliment the lines of this truck. I'm also looking to do some A/V upgrades, stock system is decent but needs a little more low end bass. Some exterior and interior lighting upgrades are also in order along with some convenience options like a remote starter. Probably won't do much in terms of performance upgrades, maybe an intake and exhaust. Also considering the TRD Sway bars, read many good things about them and they seem to be a nice upgrade that retains factory ride comfort while reducing the body roll these larger trucks tend to have.

Onto my first mod that I've done, Pop & Lock Tailgate Locker. I did not get a chance to take any pictures but installation was very easy and straightforward, couple notes worth mentioning on the install below:

    1) A ratcheting wrench is helpful when installing the actuator.

    2) Be sure to thoroughly grease the actuator assembly and any other moving surfaces before putting everything back together.

    3) I ran the harness for the Pop & Lock with the harness for the tailgate camera, If you notch a small piece out of the retaining clips for the camera harness in the tailgate and the rear of the bed you can secure the Pop & Lock harness in those clips making for a neat installation and avoiding have to punch any additional holes or run wires separate from the camera harness.
    4) Run you harness and make sure everything functions properly before securing the harness to the vehicle.

    5) Route the Pop & Lock harness alongside the body harness that runs up the frame of the vehicle, be mindful of the exhaust and tuck it behind heat shielding where necessary.

    6) As of now the wiring directions provided with the Pop & Lock are a little misguided. The 14-17 Tundras only have two blue connectors, it is the lower of the two. Also the wires they have you tap are backwards. Directions state that the Blue Wire on the Pop & Lock goes to the Blue Wire with Silver Dash on the Tundra and that the Green Wire on the Pop & Lock goes to the White Wire With Silver Dash on the Tundra. It should be the other way around, Blue to White With Silver Dash, Green to Blue With Silver Dash. If you get it backwards you can always reverse the wires at the actuator.

Pricing for the Pop & Lock was very reasonable, see Amazon, and took me about 45 minutes start to finish. Well worth it in my opinion, I don't make it a habit to leave diamonds and other exotic gems laying around in my bed but it is nice peace of mind knowing that the Pop & Lock coupled with my Revolver X2 make my bed pretty secure to stow my personal belongings.

The next thing I wanted to address was the exterior lighting. I looked at a couple of retrofit options but decided to go with the 2018 LED Headlights & Fog Lights. I did not take any pictures while I was doing the retrofit as it is pretty straightforward but I took a lot of pictures showing the finished results with the lights in the different positions for those who are on the fence about deciding on the 2018 lights. I also did the always on mod for the fog lights. I got the harness from Retrofit Wholesale & the headlights and fog lights from Sparks Parts.

First is a picture of the unboxing, when I first got them.

I also took the time to put some Sylvania amber LED bulbs for the front turn signals. I wanted to retain the amber color for the turn signals without having the egg yolk look. I wired the headlights up per the instructions and added the Sylvania load resistors as well so I wouldn't get any hyper-flash. Picked these up from my local Advance Auto.

Finally some pictures of the ground location and where I mounted the Morimoto Relay. I ran the harness along the front with the harness for the horn and airbag sensor. It is pretty easy to run the harness neat and out of the way when you have the grill out.

After I addressed the lighting I did some small modifications to the interior.

Started with adding the driver side grab handle. Picked this up from Sparks Parts and took me all of 10 minutes to put on, very easy DIY. The most time consuming part is trimming the bottom of the newly supplied A-Pillar to allow for the harness to clear. You will see what I am referring to when you remove the original A-Pillar cover. I'm a perfectionist and used a Dremel tool to get it just right.

I then moved to the center console. I'm used to having smaller center consoles in my European cars, the console I had in my X5 was decent size but pales in comparison to the center console in the Tundra. I like to have my belonging organized and within easy reach.

Got a divider that was a simple drop in. If you look at the picture you can see that I added some strips of velcro to all of the edges of the divider. When I first dropped it in it was a little loose and you could hear it moving back and forth under acceleration & braking. The velcro tightens it up and prevents it making any noise.

While I was at it I got a center console organizer tray for stuff that I like to keep handy. It has some nice non skid mats in the compartments to stop things from sliding around while you're driving.

Question, aren't the LED running lights supposed to be a solid beam? Why does it look like it's broken up in sections? Is it the pic?

They are a solid beam, I took these with my cell phone camera and it had a hard time capturing the full LED beam in some of the pictures.

I'm assuming you are talking about these? I saw these but the way the sockets fit in the Tundra the white portion of the bulb was showing.

I went with these because they are silver and look good in the headlight housings. There are also LEDs all around these so they illuminate very well.

Yeah capturing the LEDs can be a little tricky.

Do it and don't look back. I contemplated sending my original lights out to be retrofit but have read about people having issues wit them not sealing up properly after opening them. I didn't want to have any issues and this is all OEM with the exception of the harness but even that is plug and play. The light output is phenomenal. I will try and get some night shots from the interior. The light output is clean and crisp and much better than the stock halogens.

After I sorted out the interior a little bit I moved back to the exterior and replaced the factory puddle lights with some LED units from Drive Bright.

Lights came packaged very well. Also included a set of LED license plate lights. I did not install these since I'm planning on getting the LED units from Headlight Revolution.

I had set an appointment several weeks ago to get my windows tinted. My local music/tint shop gets very busy around this time but I've known them for years, are the best in town, and they do all my vehicles.

I decided to have them match the rear windows. They measured at about 20% on their meter and that is dark enough for me. Tints came out clean as always and matched perfectly.

Also got rid of the long whip style antenna. I listen to FM radio mainly for news and traffic and haven't noticed any changes in my radio reception.

Next thing I wanted to focus on was wheels and tires. I have a thing for BBS wheels and love the ways that the RD423s look on the Tundra. I was able to fnd a set locally for a reasonable price with TPMS sensors. They were a little rough but I panned on getting them redone anyway so the condition didn't matter to much.

    Some before pictures

I sent them out to a wheel company that does all my refurbs for me, they have done several sets for me in the past including the BBS that I have on one of my BMWs. They fully refurbish them by stripping them down, getting rid of any curb/road rash and then powdercoating them with almost any color you can think of. The color that I have on my other set of BBS is a custom hyper silver that I ordered a couple of years ago so I got the RD423s done in the same color.

    After pictures

I also ordered a fresh set of BBS center caps along with a set of polished Toyota valve stem caps.

The previous owner had already put some Yokohama YK-HTX tires on there in 275/55/20 fitment they are virtually new so I deceided to have them remounted on the BBS. I might get some larger tires in the future.

    All mounted up

Really like the way they turned out. Goes with the picture that I have envisioned for the truck.

Shortly after I got the truck I was wanting a set of rubber floor mats/liners. I personally don't care for Weather Tech floor liners, I feel like they have to much of a plastic feeling and are a little to slick when they get any liquid on them. Narrowed it down to the Husky Liners or the OEM Toyota rubber floor mats. Before I could pull the trigger my girlfriend got me a set of the OEM Toyota mats, she knew I had my eye on a set. The fitment is perfect, and they are a nice soft pliable rubber. The coverage is also excellent, much better than the factory mats, grooves are nice and deep, looks like they will have no problem holding liquid if the need arises. I also like that they say Tundra on the front mats.

Once I saw how nice the 2018 LED headlights and the LED puddle lights looked I decided to continue with the LED theme by dong a full LED conversion on the interior lights and the rest of the exterior lights. I purchased all my LEDs from Headlight Revolution. Pictures and my thoughts are below. Some of the LED pictures of the tail light look darker than their halogen counterparts, trust me when I say that the LEDs are significantly brighter, due to the Georgia's unpredictable weather and some unforeseen circumstances I had to leave in the middle of the install and come back later in the day so some pictures were taken at different times with different ambient lighting.

Installation was very straightforward only simple hand tools are needed. Maybe an electric impact gun to install the hyper-flash resistors. I went for the white LED interior lights, they are very crisp and very bright. The exterior lights are also very bright and clean looking. The LED license plate lights aren't so bright that they wash out the rear view camera. The reverse lights however are extremely bright and are very helpful when backing up in poorly lit areas at night.

Been awhile since I updated my thread. Been extremely busy both with my truck and other things going on but I finally got a free minute to add onto it. I got this truck with 56k miles on it. I'm very adamant about a 5K oil change interval when it comes to synthetic oils, some people think its overkill but its worth it to me. Pics were from when I did the first oil service at 60K and I actually did my second service at 65K today. Took several road trips over the summer that the truck handled with ease.

While I was at it I went ahead and purchased the metal filter housing and the Motiv filter housing socket. I got my hands on a case of TRD Oil filters for a great price so I have them on hand. In regards to the oil I come from German cars, I used to run Castrol religiously but have since switched to Liqui-Moly, it is a great quality oil and I get it from one of my vendors by the case. They make a 0W-20 for our vehicles that has great feedback and ran great in it.
