They don't exist yet. Once they come out, I'll eventually get them.

As far as I know, there aren't really any bumper laws in CA other than having one itself -- or maybe I'm just oblivious to them. The main requirements for the rear are mud flaps, an illuminated license plate, and DOT-approved lights.

Working on a roof rack for my bed rack; it's pretty much ready to mount once the liner dries. It's made of aluminum U-channels and weighs ~45lbs. I decided to make it all bolted together so I can easily replace one of the slats if needed.

I don’t think a police officer would bother him once the mud flaps are on.

I seen a similar set up as Kris has but some tubes were added the skirted the bottom of the body. They used 1.5” .120 wall and it looked good. That is where they tied in the quick disconnects for the mud flaps. It was in MT. They have a big hard on for anything that sticks outside the fenders and you better have mud flaps. If not, guaranteed ticket.

Here is the CA law on bumpers:

    CHAPTER 5. Other Equipment [27000 - 28160]
    ( Chapter 5 enacted by Stats. 1959, Ch. 3. )

    ARTICLE 11.5. Bumpers [28070 - 28071]
( Heading of Article 11.5 renumbered from Article 11 by Stats. 1976, Ch. 1079. )

    28071.
Every passenger vehicle registered in this state shall be equipped with a front bumper and with a rear bumper. As used in this section, “bumper” means any device designed and intended by a manufacturer to prevent the front or rear of the body of the vehicle from coming into contact with any other motor vehicle. This section shall not apply to any passenger vehicle that is required to be equipped with an energy absorption system pursuant to either state or federal law, or to any passenger vehicle which was not equipped with a front or rear bumper, or both, at the time that it was first sold and registered under the laws of this or any other state or foreign jurisdiction.

Now where they might get the tape measure out is height. In CA, with his GVWR, he can have 30” max off the ground.

Trying to come up with ideas for the bumper's corners; these are very rough but you get the idea -- I'll cut them up a bit so they look chunky and plastered..

Just over 68k. I've been racking them up slower than usual lately because I work from home. So I really only add miles when I go to the gym, which is just a quarter-mile away or when I'm going on a trip offroad.

Started on the corners for the rear bumper. These bases are pure beef (ie. 2x6 and 3/16"); going to add upward-angled tube for rub bars.

Look up Fellers for the vinyl materials if you do it yourself. They are one of the largest wholesale suppliers of vinyl.

I like the new bumper, there’s no high clearance rear bumper for our tundras out there but I like this guy’s custom built one https://youtu.be/-gEUh5a9wFA

Or this one like the Tacoma high clearance bumper

Made some progress on the bumper. Yes, the hoop is slightly crooked; it's just tacked in place to get an idea of the final look but I'll fix the fitment. There is significantly more clearance now than my last bumper. The overall weight goal is still up in the air but I'll find the number out soon.

Only a few things left to do: corner wings that extend to the headlights, cut up the winch plate for weight savings, fairlead mount, license plate mount, fog light mounts, and caps for the tube ends.

I'll also do a bit more trimming around the rougher edges of the design to clean it up. I'm on the fence about adding aluminum plating because I like having as much airflow to the coolers as reasonably possible.
