FYI, Maytag was bought by Whirlpool a while back, quality not the same. I learned this when we bought a set about 10-11 years ago. About the 3 years of use, the washer started making a loud sound when on spin cycle. It sounded like it was going to take off. Called around, service guy told me that the Main Seal was going out. When asked if an issue, was told that it will only get worse and fail, we would know because water would be on the floor. It failed shortly after. Contacted Maytag / Whirlpool, we were 39 months from purchase, only 36 month factory warranty. Grobbled with them, they would supply the parts but would not send to me. I would have to pay labor, was like $300 at the time. I told them to "stick it" and put it on the curb.

Ended up with a Fisher & Paykel after recommendation from local appliance vendor; what he had at his house. Top loader that works like front loader. Works great, spins up very fast, drying times very short.

Not surprised to hear that although 3 years of use is better than three weeks.

I've seen Fisher & Paykel appliance at Lowes. A bit pricey but look like quality. I think F&P is based out of N Zealand?

New Zealand correct, their origin is in Saling and or Nautical equipment.

I've got an old matag that's been running for like 20 years now. If you have to replace it I would go with Maytag.

Well, the wife took it to social media and they'll be replacing it with a different model- at no cost.

My 93 year old mom replaced a Maytag washer and dryer set after maybe 20 years. Her current set is 11 years old..

Not a knock. Just funny how we have these conversations because there is nothing to talk about that's broken on our trucks :benchpress:

We just had a double oven go out and the Home Warranty company is replacing it with a GE. Hopefully the common denominator isn't GE!!:eek:

Next time you buy a washer do yourself a favor and get yourself a speed queen. They are kind of old school but they can be fixed by the homeowner typically YouTube is your friend. They usually run between 700 and thousand dollars. Stainless steel drum conventional Toploader and they typically last 15 years without an issue. The guy at my local mom and pop appliance store sells them. Places like Sears won’t because they don’t get the warranty work out of it. Luckily I’m a plumber and I have a POSGE washing machine that I replaced the motor and clutch assembly myself after only three years in service.

Next time it goes out I’m getting a speed queen. Look them up.

They don’t have all the ridiculous bells and whistles like Fords and Chevys. They are like the Toyota of washing machines LOL

I saw the OP got resolution for his issue but thought I'd post anyway.

Speed Queen is the ONLY way to go. We went thru the whole high tech, front load, fluff your pillow, take forever, POS washer dryer crap several years ago.

Finally broke down after some recommendations and research and went the Speed Queen route with the basic old school knobs/dials. HOLY MACKEREL!! What a difference! Clothes are three times cleaner and a load is done in a tick under 25 minutes. If I brought new school back into the house my wife would probably shoot me, she loves the Speed Queens.

Had ours a little over there years now and not a single problem. They're not fancy but they just flat do what they're supposed to do, clean friggen clothes.

We got all new GE appliances when we built our house. My father in law has been a GE appliance repair guy for over 30 years so all of our appliances are in top shape. We got a hell of a discount when we bought them as well. He did make us buy a top load washer though because he said the front load are junk.

Wish we lived closer Sean, I would send him over to you.

We also have a speed queen. It really is perfection of an appliance. Clothes are so much cleaner and done in half the time. It's built like a tank. It's not just marketing either. It's a superior machine, that will last 20-30 years.

Side note...we have abandoned using liquid fabric softener. It contains rendered animal fat. ( Tallow dimethyl ammonium chloride). It will turn rancid in the crevices of your washer over time if it is not 100% rinsed out. Modern washers skimp on water so it often doesn't rinse all out. It is greasy gross stuff all around if you happen to look into it. Anyway, I wanted to remove the fabric softener cup on the top of our agitator with a plastic cap since we would not be using that cup anymore. The cup collects lint and other debris, so I called speed queen. They agreed fabric softener is awful btw. I asked the tech if they had a plastic cap I could use to replace the cup. Offered to not only send it to me for free, but also offered to send me an new, upgraded, commercial agitator at no charge. Sent them both UPS. Impressive customer service.
