Has anyone done the antenna mod where you flip the antenna upside down and put it inside the fender?

Yep. I just installed fiberglass fenders. To deal with the antenna issue I temporarily installed it in the fender. Reception in LOUSY.

    What’s the point?

A blank spot from where the antenna used to be looks worse than factory antenna.

I feel the same way. Either go the extra step and get the hole filled and painted, or just get a stubby antenna. :notsure:

Go find a sequoia fender. I did this mod to my 2008. I aimed the antenna forward instead of down. Worked well enough in Houston and I liked not having the hole in the fender.

I just tried this with carbon fiber fenders and it didn't work in my area. I moved the antenna up to the cowl beneath the hood and I still notice a lot of impedance.

I can't remember what I saw it on. But at sometime in the past I've seen some Toyota with antenna on the metal piece at side of windshield. I don't know what that area is called.
But antenna come out at bottom and ran upwards along metal . And had a plastic piece about middle around antenna to stabilize it.
It was laid back out of the way.
I would love to have mine that way

pull it out and stick it under your headliner. Seriously... it’ll work great. Just run the wire down the pillar and plug in your radio.
