Congratulations. I traded my 16 Tacoma trd off road for a double cab tundra today. Amazed after reading this thread how many Gen 3 tacoma owners have jumped ship. Glad it's not just me!

I did the exact same upgrade. Was the Taco a TRD?

I have to say a big thanks to this forum. I have a 2014 Tundra DC as well as a 16 GMC 3500 and was thinking seriously of downsizing my Tundra to a 18 Tacoma. Mostly would use it for all my non big truck stuff but after sitting in it, test driving one and even put a deposit on one. I wasn’t feeling 100% about it, even though it would be more economical and it’s due to land before Christmas. For the money it would save me I’m sure it wouldn’t be worth it with all the possible downtime it would cost me. I know you can’t believe everything you read and have to take it with a grain of salt,,, but when everyone on the Tundra forum is just talking about typical truck stuff and no one really complaining. Same thing on the 4Runner forum as well, the Tacoma forum not so much. There seems to be a lot of guys that are disappointed with there trucks. It’s just reassuring especially after reading about so many of you former 3rd generation Taco owners switching to Tundras.

Interesting thread. I have a Sold tag on a brand new '18 SR5 CM, with a ProComp lift on it, and supposed to be trading in my '11 Tacoma V6 SR5 Access Cab. No kids here, just three dogs, and my trailer is a Kendon, that I use to haul one of my motorcycles around on, whenever I don't want to drive the minimum of 6 hours to get out of the state. I bought the Tacoma new, put a 3" lift kit on it, Leer shell, aftermarket stereo, etc... It has 75K miles on it, and has never given me any trouble. Why do I have a Sold tag on a new Tundra? 'cuz this is 'merica, and that's what we do... I have to be honest, however, I'm starting to have second thoughts. I'm pretty attached to my vehicles, and as it's been 7 trouble free years, do I need/want to ditch the Taco? I don't need the Tundra for anything other than cruising around, maybe some mild off road, and hauling house stuff that the Taco already does. Over on the Taco forums, the Tacoma or Tundra? threads slant one way, here they slant the other. My wife wants me to get the Tundra so I can haul our friends around, something the Access cab in the Taco is no bueno. It's not really a joint decision, as we keep separate accounts and buy our own vehicles.

    Hmm...

coming from a 2016 Tacoma dcab 4x4, there was some minor issues with it (bought oct-2015) most were resolved with either TSB or fixed under the 1 yr minor adjustment warranty. overall the truck was great but the biggest factor was having 2 people and 2 hunting dogs in a Tacoma was just not enough space. add a 3rd person and it was impossible.

with a crew max tundra 2 people and 2 dogs was plenty of space for the dogs to even sleep with the rear seats up. adding a 3 person was even viable in the back with 2 dogs if need be. we are of the mindset that the dogs ride in the cab due to the winters up here. the humans suffer the same fate as the dog in our mind, if we are cozy in the cab so should the dogs.

just some info if that helps.

I agree. Here were my three roughing it this morning, on a cold Texas morning.

The Tacoma has a Leer shell on it, which keeps the pups safe when we run to the dog park. The weather here isn't really a factor, so it works well. They's ride in the front of the Tundra, however, a shell on the back of the short box on that truck would probably look silly.

Beautiful dogs, they would love the extra room in the Tundra, I went from a 2010 Tundra DC then traded it for a 2016 Tacoma and was miserable in the few months I had the Tacoma because of lack of power, room and handling so with no regrets I went back to the 2017 Tundra and haven't missed it or looked back!

Hope you pick whats best for you, though with the seats folded up in the Tundra them dogs will be so happy!

Thanks, Geno. I'm not sure they are ever happy. Our bed is two full size XLs bolted together, so 9' w x 7' l, and they still growl if we dare to move them off us.

Interesting take on your Tundra > Tacoma > Tundra route. I haven't had those issues with my 2011, but maybe part of that is that my experience with Toyota vehicles is '86 Extra cab, '93 P/U, '07 FJC, and the '11 Taco, (with a '77 FJ40, but who's counting...). Perhaps my expectations have been met.

The Tundra is coming home at 11am today. I was debating this with my wife on Thursday night, and she told me to get a Magic 8 Ball app on my phone, and ask it the question. I did, asked "Should I buy the Tundra, and...

I'll admit I only read through 70% of this thread. I'm convinced and all in for Tundra. :amen::yes:

I too put on a lot of miles on gravel roads in MT and you will love a tundra. Especially compared to a Chevy 3/4 ton. I can’t speak for the Tacoma however.
