I recently purchased and installed a used OEM Tonneau cover for my 2018 Crewmax. Despite following the installation instructions, the Tonneau cover fits a bit loose with approximately 3/8" of vertical play near the rear. I'm mostly concerned from a security perspective. The price was right, so I can't complain, but it's not immediately obvious to me how to adjust for this situation. The rails appear to be too high. The only adjustment that I'm aware of is the set screw on each side rail near the front. Any ideas?

I don’t know much about that cover but maybe you could find some heavy duty vinyl of the right thickness and adhere it to the underside of the bedrail. So when you shut the cover you have to push down on it to get it to tightly latch.

Thanks 15whtrd for the response. I agree that your recommendation would work (and might be my attempt at a quick fix) but hoping someone is familiar with this condition and has additional ideas.

@15whtrd pretty much nailed it. Your cover is almost identical to the Extang Encore, which has no vertical adjustment to the latches. Extang provides a couple of vinyl pieces, similar to door edge guard, to take up that gap and the play in the cover.

Isn’t the OEM cover just an Extang with a Toyota badge and an extra $500?

Is that in the front by the cab? If so, in the instructions I read, there is supposed to be a foam seal that runs across the top rail. I'm buying a used one as well and will have to come up with that too.

The looseness of the latches is usually at the rear. You will need a foam or rubber gasket at the bulkhead. I usually try to use a closed cell foam that I can tuck under the edge of the bedcaps. Tucking it helps to seal the corners as well as closing the seam where the bulkhead meets the bed sides.

Thanks. I couldn't tell from his picture if that was up front or in the rear. I will keep that in mind for when I go to install the one I get.

It's the rear of the truck at the tailgate. Extang sent me a shim kit, which helped a little, but still seems a bit loose. Here's how it appears with shims.
