Looking to build a board on board fence for my new house here in the next few months.

Does anyone have any pointers? Things they wish they did?

*** ensure property lines are accurate ***
    - consult bylaw maximum fence height
    - use 6x6 posts
    - pay someone with a riding auger to cement them
    - use a lumber company that'll supply all the parts needed per panel (or do the part list yourself)
    - optionally buy whole prefab panels, areas you may open up again (future pool install)
    - use cordless power tools, rotating batteries
    - use a wood spacer + pencil to even out the board placement, overlap the boards accordingly, eg; match the prefab

The only thing I wish I did different was use deck screws throughout, not nails for the boards which get loose and bleed.
Left to right over time, original nails, original staples, zinc coated screws, powder coated deck screws:

So are the 6x6's better than the metal posts?

Noted, thank you. I had planned on using on using these. It's already going to be a chunk of money so it made sense to spend the extra buck on good quality.

    Still rolling stock baby....
2-3/8 8ft galvanized posts, think terminal post for chain link fence.
    Dome caps for 2-3/8 posts
Simpson strong tie bracket to attach to posts and 2x4 stringers, either PT or Cedar.
Cedar or PT pickets, I prefer cedar over PT, much better looking fence.
ring shank round head galvanized 1in to 1-1/4 gun nail
Simpson strong tie 1/4 x 1-1/4 galvanized lag screws.
60lb bag of ready mix per post.

I can get you pics of my fence later today when I get back from work. Heck PM me your email address and how many feet of fence and I can email you a quote, no obligation of course..

Well I do appreciate it, but I will be doing this myself. The quote I got was over $10,000 for a fence. And that was regular pine with no stain.

    I can only quote materials
    I don’t install
    How many feet of fence?

I am fixing to start two house package quotes but I fly mind working up a quote just to see how much material would be roughly

I would suggest what we call a "rot" board at the bottom, a piece of treated wood, 2x6 or 2x8 horizontal at the bottom of the fence. The pickets can rest right on top. Most damage or rot will be at bottom of pickets as it ages. The rot board will hold up better and can be replaced if needed instead of many pickets.

I've seen some of those and they look nice. Do you put the pickets on top of the board?

yes, they can serve as a guide as well to keep pickets in line.
make sure to remove any stapled tags that may be on bottom end of picket. If not the pickets will sit at slightly different levels, staples acting like spacers, more noticeable at bottom.

Also recommend cedar pickets, cost more but will last longer.

Not sure what you mean, usually the question is 6x6 vs 4x4. I’m not a pro but I put together my backyard fence and it’s like this except the boards overlap front and back as the cost was split between neighbors. It’s a pretty simple DIY in terms of minor handyman skills. Paying someone to cement the 6x6’s deep was well worth it, and it’s still vertical and true 10y+.
