Got my brand new Platinum Friday and before I took delivery I noticed two knicks down to the metal. Once is an obvious scratch and the other is a Knick I hope is something like paint transfer. Going to the shop in the morning. It will be fixed by the dealer at their cost but I really hope they can do it right and they don’t try to short cut it and start a battle.

Ugh, that sucks. I'd honestly be asking for a new truck—no way I'd want paint/clear coat work done before I even take delivery.

Yeah I don’t think I want to go there, especially seeing my father in law is the salesman, lol. And the fact they went and traded another truck with another dealer to get this truck just for me. Like i said as long as they fix it right I will be fine. If they don’t it is going to be a fight for sure. It sucks as I am super anal but I will have faith in them for now.

Dude that sucks! so sorry to hear that. Sadly, they won't give you a different truck, especially platinums cause they seem to be harder to find. I would make sure it is done right with a a proper warranty in writing.

Thanks man. Yeah my thoughts exactly. They warranty all of their body work for life so that’s good. I just don’t want them trying to hit the think with a touch up pen and think it is all good.

The first Tundra I took off the lot came with a small dent in the drivers side door. Toyota fixed it two days later very well. It ended up being one of the best trucks I have ever owned.

Sorry that your new truck has nicks and scratches already. If the nick or scratch is down to metal, a spot paint will work depending on how much room there is on the panel for blending. If it’s close to an edge, they will have to blend into the adjacent panel. The BIG part of the fix is the final clear coat; it must go edge to edge on the panel. No spot clear. Never. A good paint and body man can make it look like new again!

One is near the top of corner of the right rear corner panel toward the top of the bed. The other is in the middle of the right front fender sort of about the middle of the wheel well. For clear work I hope they are in places that won’t require blending into another panel like you said but again as long as they go to those steps I am good. I don’t want the 5 minute magic cure solution.

And thank you! You made me feel more comfortable with the process. I had a bad chip on the last truck but didn’t want to pay the dealer $450 to fix it.

You’re very welcome. About the scratch: if they cut and buff into the clear coat, and successfully make the scratch disappear, have them measure the thickness of the factory clear coat FIRST, and then again after. The factory clear is very thin, maybe on 1.5 mils. You don’t want them burning thru your clear. Best to you.

They think they can buff out the front spot. The back they are only using touch up paint. I asked what if it is still noticeable. They told me I would need to speak to management as that’s all they authorized. That puts me in a bad spot because if I put up a fight my father-in-law is going to be put In a awkward position and that won’t go well for me if my wife catches wind lol. Great deal and great service because of family when things go right. When things go bad it isn’t an advantage at all.

As the immortal Chuck Brown would say, good grief....

You're still a customer, and spent good $$$. They need to make it right, and not do anything less than what they would want done to their new vehicle, if the same situation arose!!

I agree, I just might need you guys to tell my wife that, she won't listen to me, lol.

If it is crappy I don't think I cannot not say something. I need to let them try and fix it and see what it looks like. I am assuming it will be crap, but I hope I am wrong.

The nick can be touched up with factory touch up, and you will more than likely end up with a slight paint blob. I’ve got a product for paint blobs: Langka paint blob remover. I use this, and it’s awsome stuff. When used correctly, the paint blob will disappear, and it will look like it was color sanded. You must use OEM touch up paint when using Langka. You can find it on Amazon. Great product. When finished, it will look better than the dealer can do. I swear by it, and I’ve used it on tri-coat paint (pearl).

That stinks man.....I hope they fix it right. I’d be willing to talk to your wife ;) j/k.....working with family can be rough...let us know what happens.

I’m a detailer for a hobby and there is a lot that can be removed via buff (if they know what they are doing).

So the body guy calls me tonight and says they back spot looks pretty good but the front one is iffy. Just great. Told him I would come tomorrow because I know I won’t be happy and need to deal with it. Good news is my FIL said I am good to go on fighting it with the manager. We shall see.

Nice I will just be happy to get a clean paint job. Sucks as I bought it two weeks ago and have had it in my possession for 2 days. Wife signed the deal while I was traveling for work the first week and now this.

    Update...

The rear nick was touched up pretty good. Isn't 100% gone, but you will have to hunt for it to find it. The front one looks like crap. I took it to the Sale Manager and they are going to paint it and fix that one right. Just need to schedule it with them. I think he was a little confused on why they didn't fix it right to begin with. He seemed to think I was looking for something more than just the repair. When I explained all I want is the paint right, he said it was no problem at all. They should have done it from the beginning.

    The saga continues.

Seems annoyed?? I'd "seem annoyed" if I bought a brand new truck and they scratched it all up!! Let me scratch my own truck up, LOL.

So they are going to schedule to get the front fender repainted to repair the chip in the front. They keep asking if I am sure I want to do that on a new truck. So I have a choice of living with the bad touch up job or taking the chance of issues of them having blending issues. Anyone go through this or know paint work? Am I really risking it more on a respray than living with the chip?
