Just got notice my unit shipped. How long has every one had to wait typically?

    "Latest response from phoenix

Sorry about the delay in response. I went away from the duty, and the girl we hired for the task was no good.

They said that with the board you provided and data gathered, they could not determine the difference; the difference must be from the signal from the car side. They need to come to the US to test and get data from truck. The have not provided a date yet. I will ask them if they will send the a/c board back or bring it when they come."

Ummmm yea...their willing to fly to the U.S and test a truck and its data......I hope you know that's a BS response. You should ask them when they are coming and what flight # so you can meet them at the airport with the truck. Do they really think your gonna buy that BS response? Their willing to fly a person ( actually more than one cause it says "they" need to come to the U.S) to test a truck and get "data" from it? What data could the truck provide?
This is why I'm so skeptical of Chinese tech. When theirs an actual problem they give you a BS answer or excuse and their is NO WAY you can return it.

I bet if you replied and said "don't waste your money coming to the U.S I'll just send the unit back for an exchange" or better yet tell them you've already bought a ticket to Guangzhou (where most tech is made) and will bring the head unit with you. They will either not respond and turn tale and run or give you another BS excuse.

I hope you didn't send them anything cause honestly I doubt your getting it back.

Sorry for the long rant. I just hate hearing how people get screwed.

After reading this I jumped to Android Authority and found a good review. I think I'll be buying a Pioneer AVIC-8200NEX (https://www.androidauthority.com/best-android-auto-head-units-791179/)

Sorry to say but I'm very satisfied with the sound improvement over OEM and boldness of the Phoenix. Maybe ask your wife (or boyfriend) what they would prefer a 12.1 " or a 6.4", 6.95", 7.0 .

You think screen size makes screen size makes the audio sound better? Just download an audio app from the Play Store. I'm very skeptical of companies that pop up overnight especially those in China. It may last 6 months maybe a year...then what? For them to respond with such a BS answer should be a red flag to everyone purchasing it. For some reason however, there's always someone out there that takes a serious comment and turns it into a penis joke. Keep it serious so others may benefit from your insight and not make a $800or more mistake.

I have been watching this thread since I m a big Audio guy myself and would like to upgrade the stock stereo. I have amps subs and have upgraded all speakers (kicker) now thinking of changing the head unit.

I understand some of the concerns and agree that this unit is not Pioneer or Kenwood but it’s super sexy and looks totally OEM w functionality of Tesla. It will take sometime to sort out some of the bugs but tell me what doesn’t nowadays especially w electronics.

I m thinking of keeping the truck for a while so as long as it doesn’t totally crap out after a year, I m in.

Also, there is no reason to be mad at each other. @DMBfan u have some valid points but you have to understand half of the US is made in China these days.

@ZPMAN pls keep it clean. I know you are trying to figure things out on your own w limited support from the vendor. I do that too sometime and get nasty when people throw negativity at me.

Just to let you know i haven't had any real problems with the Phoenix HU. I did however get a hold of someone from the company in California with a question/recommendation concerning my recently installed front camera. As for DMBfan i am not mad (little amused) but think he should open his own thread with negative vibes about China or the install of his new Pioneer HU. I personally belive Phoenix is a company that took aftermarket HUs to a future level.

I know that half the stuff (maybe more) we use is made in China. I'm not being negative on the unit. I'm stating valid points a person should take into consideration before buying it.
The last thing anyone wants is to spend $800 on a device that bricks 6 months down the road and the company has since disappeared. Are they actively pushing updates so you can continue to use the Google Play store and download apps?

If I buy one of these I am definitely rooting (from these guys: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android-auto/android-head-units) it and throwing in a different ROM.

Update: This forum is about the Tesla style head unit and rooting it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android-auto/android-head-units/tesla-style-headunits-t3512709

I have been looking into these radios, found 2 different units that do this vertical ~12" screen. This thread is primarily about the PhoenixAndroidRadios.com.

    I also found the https://www.espony-cargo.com/12-tes...tion-stereo-radio-for-toyota-tundra-2014-2017

They look similar, and the Phoenix version has more images.. but it also runs a REALLY old Android 4.3.3 while The Espony version runs Android 6.0.
Any feedback on installing apps from the store on eitger of these things?

Other negative feedback about either option?

    Thank you.

How did you do a restart? I've powered the unit off and back on. Is there a secret restart switch?

I gave that a shot. I also unplugged the unit and reconnected it, pushed in the reset button on the front of the unit with no luck. The screen powers on but the screen is completely black, all other controls work... I sent espony-cargo an e-mail and am waiting to hear back.

So you got the Espony-cargo version? Any pros cons you would like to list? A lot of this thread was about the Phoenix version. The main difference is the Android OS version 4.3.3(Phoenix) vs 6.0.0(Espony-Cargo).

    Thanks!

It worked okay for 12 Hours. Standing by on getting the screen up and running. It went completely black at lunch. Have only had it for 24 hours.

All of the units come with Android 4.3 and can't be updated. They list 6.0 but it is really still 4.3. I don't think there is any significant difference, but I'm curious to see.

From what I understand, the Phoenix and Espony-cargo units are the exact same unit coming from the same assembly line. Each may slightly tweak some settings, but fundamentally the same unit. Could be wrong, but this is what I'm told.

Did this too. Espony Cargo is on HKT. I called/e-mailed them and they had me send over some videos. This is their response. I'm waiting to hear back regarding shipment.

    Dear,
    We have received your video.
We are so sorry about it. We will give you return address and we will replace to you after test it, and give tracking number after shipping it out.

Correct. I have been doing a lot of digging on the HU lately and from what I have put together Phoenix and Espony-cargo are really just middlemen reselling it.
