Make sure you air down if you’re going to go out in the soft stuff. High tide you may have to cross a stream that is a mixture of fresh and saltwater. Also there’s a good Mexican restaurant as you leave down the main street to the freeway. Can’t remember the name but it’s on the right-hand side on your way out of pizmo.
I also highly suggest getting some clam chowder while you’re there. Splash Café is one of them and they serve their clam chowder in a bread bowl. It’s delicious. There’s also quite a few really good restaurants right off the beach. I think there’s a place called Fish and chips which was pretty good.

+1 on Splash Cafe. Other than that, I don't know much about it as we were just passing thru.

Maybe a big tall flag on your truck if you're going to play in the dunes.

A few years back made a pit stop there, driving coastal HWY. There was a burger/sandwich shop called "Hoagies", Guessing at the spelling. It was really awesome, we still talk about the food we got there. There was a line out the door, and probably 25 more folks out on the sidewalk. It was a local favorite, we almost did not wait, but were glad we did - Probably top 5 burger all time for me. Not too far off the beach. There was also a lot surf shops nearby.

While I was up there I drove out to “Lopez lake” It wasn’t very far from the dunes if I remember correctly and it was a cool spot. Can drive right up to the lake and hang out. Some site seeing stuff mainly.

I don’t know if you’re camping on the beach or not but they have rentals if you don’t want to go beat the truck up. I think they have a little dune buggy’s you can rent.

No camping. Hotel. Have a little over a million Hilton points I need to start using.

@BlueBottle gonna work on that. Kids and wife may put a damper on things (well at least intentionally getting it on video)

Maybe a little dash cam video with sound on of yougingerly driving through the dunes. Add whiskey throttle! I would like to hear the reactions.

That won’t be an issue. They are pretty good about it but they now make me put them in full face helmets when we off road. My daughter also tried to insist on wearing them just down the road in the Porsche.

Here’s a good reaction of her in the 911 a few years back. https://youtu.be/psciMaULWF0

Kids love the Crab Shack. They pour the food on your table and give everyone prehistoric tools, hammer, pick etc. for removing the shell. Another vote for Splash too. We rented SUPs in Avila beach once, that was an adventure.

We were there on Saturday, wish we could've met up, had we been a day later! If you haven't done crab Shack yet, do it tonight. The kids will love the bucket out on the table concept. Our kids do! Surprisingly, the crowds were not as bad as previous holidays, so you may have lucked out! Hope you tried Splash Cafe, even though the line is intimidating. Also, it is a bit of a tourist trap, but McClintock's on the East Side of Hwy 1 is pretty awesome for food and the kids. Ask for water, and see them place the glass on your head, and stand on a chair to refill. I have never seen my kids drink so much water in my life in order to get refill! Check out the Butterflies as well.

Got caught pretty airborn by a surprise drop off today. But nothing like that vid with the kids in the car Mainly cause today included the 1 year old and the wife.

About half way through I realized today I left stability control on. Doh. So much better once I turned it off
