2018 Tundra LED headlight wiring info with diagrams

Hello!

I’m starting my led headlight install and I’m confused as to where the green DRL gets plugged into? I have the 2017 Limited model

 

I think I figured it out! Goes to plug that has the fuse tap. Correct?

 

I converted mine With H4 this plug.
Didn’t use the harness

 

No issues/ worries about cutting/rapping .

 

If I do it @eledoblelu way I plug green into here. Correct?

 

What harness did you go with?let me know how long it takes you total if you could as i now have all my parts for the front end remodel

 

I purchase @eledobleu harness! Started at 8:30. Still plugging away. Deciding if I want to disconnect grey wire??

 

You didn’t use a motocontrol?
Do your lows stay on with high beams ?

 

Got it all completed just under 4hrs. For now i decided to leave the amber DRL. Kinda like the look......Thank you for all the help and especially @eledobleu for building these harnesses...I have attached a few pics of my truck and now its onto 2018 LED fogs at some point!

 

Didn’t want it that way.
It’s an easy splice to do it.
LEDs don’t use a lot of power so I didn’t use the motocontrol

Do your lows stay on with highs though? That was the problem @thomasbus337 had when he did it this way.

 

Hi/lo beams work fine just had to switch the leads around.
If ur talking about the drl lights they work like factory settings.

 

So are there any harnesses where you don't need the Morimoto h4 controller? I have a 2017 Limited I am being told that I need the lights, DRL power harness and conversion harness. Is that all I need? -Confused

Check to see if ur limited has the led drl light like the platinum. I didn’t need the morimoto and added a h4 plug.
Any one here can chime in on this about the wiring info for limited model as I do not have any info to confirm.

 

Yes Limited don’t have LED DRL from factory is just like a luxury SR5 with Amber DRL

I’m wanting to get rid of my motocontrol and cut down on the wiring.

I tested the leads on the OE harness and the low and high beams don’t stay on at the same time. That’s the same issue the OP had and the reason he went with the moritmoto harness.

I built my own harness with his directions and I’m having a hard time justifying spending another $90 on a harness. The part(s) I need is proably less than $10 to make mine work.

 

Really simple just need a Schottky Rectifier anything above 3Amps should be Ok I made my own and testing in my truck passenger side and driver side still with the Motocontrol for about 2 weeks so far no problems and thanks to TRS Andrew (motopowers) who reminded me that old school method I used before in my 2000 Civic Si to keep the Lo with Hi beams the problem is that this decreased the life of the bulbs significantly due to heat but I’m not sure if will cause problems in the LED headlights I guess not because we already doing this with the Motocontrol

The only problem I see here is that checking with @Roman Toyota don’t produce a male H4/9003 OEM connector since the male part for this connector is the bulb itself so this let us to the mercy of the Chinese junk for sale online I don’t trust those connectors but seems to be the only option available

For the diode I recommend you this over the cheap junk others use this is high quality (2 diodes one for each side)

And unfortunately this is the only option available to crimp your self a better quality wire than buying it with wire already

My 2017 limited does not have LED DRL's but it does have the Amber DRL's - So I need the drl harness then. What is an H4 plug and do I need to add that somehow? Thankks

 

Since I have retrofit done by @eledobleu and moto control harness wondering if I want to replace my retro with new 2018 led headlights, what more harness I need to get in order to have amber and led strips working as OEM? My retrofit with halos can be seen at @iHacker post.

 

Those were the most useful pictures I could ever find for the Motocontrol install, I remember that day when you installed your retros

I still love them but I my put them up here for sale if someone interested and they are done by @eledobleu and probably I will order OEM 2018 led headlights but would like to keep led and amber as drl but not sure what I need to order in order to correctly work I have pulled out as I remember my gray wire under the dash if that helps.

Any comment what should I get besides new headlights?

 

We all have a good selection for the harness now or at least the 3 most mentioned here, one from a guy user name @iHacker and other 2 harnesses @eledobleu and one from @motopowers or most know as Retrofit source

Depending on what you are looking for those are all the options available

 

@iHacker So as you are familiar what retros i have i would like to order correct harness wires in order to install new 2018 headlights and to have always drl led, also amber as a drl, kind of like it.

So questions i have would led dim when I do turn signal or what options are available?

My truck is 2016 SR5

@iHacker That's exactly what I want. Are they flashing while turn signal is on? LED strip as a turn signal or not?

 

Not the LED strip only the ambers are used as turn signal

 

I wish they could be switchback as my retrofit

 

It’s posible but that’s another story, you will need to take them apart and change the LED DRL boards Diode Dynamics is working on this now not sure but I guess Retrofit source is doing this too.
