Pretty sure there's no difference between 2017 and 2018 intake system.

That is all I did, can' say I gained anything but certainly didn't loose anything. People spend $300+ on a CAI and will tell you it's a waste so why not spend $13 on an AFA and a good filter. Besides the AFA is the first piece in a CAI system so for $13 why not. An engine is an air pump so if you can get better air in go for it.

I agree with you that larger pleats/larger filter is better. I never visually compared the OEM filter to a Wix, what I do know is that the Wix filter I put in my last F-150 appeared to be far superior to the OEM version (it had way deeper pleats and a better gasket).

I've never had issues with MAFS getting gummed up. Oil gets sucked through if there is TOO MUCH applied. A thin coat only. THIN.. If property applied the oil can't get sucked through the filter membrane. If over applied the oil saturates the filter membrane and can cause MAFS to get fouled. As a general rule I check my MAFS once a year depending on my driving no matter what filter type I may have. Only takes a few minutes to clean up a MAFS. Even excessive dust can foul a MAFS. There are good reasons why many filter manufacturers offer both wet and dry filters. K&N is one of the first to come out with wet. For Decades...I think what gets lost on some folks is the difference between wet and dry. There is no law that says you have to use oil on the K&N for example. A perfectly fine reusable filter as is. The oil...properly applied...acts like a spider web across the filter membrane collecting smaller dust particles that dry filters pass through. It's all about preference.

In my 2009 I had the K&N and it definitely whistled which was a little annoying. But otherwise a very good product. What are problems have people had with the K&N? Thinking about getting one on my 2017.

Are you talking about the CAI kit or drop in? The whistling sound can occur in aftermarket CAIs. Usually the new intake tube is redesigned to minimize the whistling. Any extraneous air getting in can cause it too.

I think the mods need to somehow make it if you put CAI, or air filter, into a thread title, it automatically reroutes them to all of these threads before they can post it LOL.

I will say when I’ve ran K&N air filters it was my own fault for the maf failing. Never had a problem until then. And it may not even of been that, other than I tried to clean it when I cleaned the air filter so it could’ve been the MAF cleaner I used.

After that I switched to aerosol oil. I was always looking to get it as red as possible without being too much. The trick is to add a small amount, let it soak in before looking for any white spots. If you oil it and immediately install it you have more of a possibility of issues. Definitely let them sit and coagulate. The oil gets stickier as it sits.

If you change out your cabin filter. Reach down in the fan and check for debris. Mine had dog food and leaves in it. Peace. D

There’s only two types that I’m aware of. The oiled version and the dry pro S. I’m using the dry pro. Quite a few are using the oiled version or the similar k&n or TRD filter. In my opinion they all filter about the same some with a little more efficiency. From the Afe website it states that the dry filters better. Imo if you’re looking for good filter efficiency check out s&b or stick with stock.

Does anyone have a picture of how the air accelerator mounts? IMO it doesn't fit in my 18 correctly. There is a lip after the inlet that seals to the fender, but then you can't install the air box in the correct location because it is too long. You have to push that lip thru the fender and the inlet is supported. IDK if it is a big deal or if you loss any benefit by it not mounting correctly?

You need to shove that lip inside the fender hole. I installed my accelerator into the fender without the box in place you have to fold it to get it in there. Then snap it on to the box as you place it.

I did that, but I’m talking about you have the “trumpet” that goes into the fender, then there is a lip that would seal it to the hole. I have it installed but for it to sit in the correct position, it would have to be like 1/2” shorter. It’s hard to explain without having the accelerator out.

If you’re hoping that the trumpet pulls back into place in seals from the inside of that fender hole, you would be wrong LOL. There is a small gap around the hole and it just kind of is what it is. Sorry to use that phrase. That is the way that it mounts. As long as you stuffed the trumpet through the hole, then it’s snapped correctly onto the box and the box is in its home, it is mounted correctly.

Ok. Thanks. I figured as much, but it snapped so nicely into the hole that it threw me off.
