    Guys,

I own a 2014 TRD SC’d CM. What has Magnuson done to get an extra 50hp over my TRD? Is it a simple flash or are the internals different on the SC?

Pretty sure magnuson would know... but that "contact us" tab on their site might just be to mess with people I dunno

Same TVS1900, same pulley size. Either Magnuson uses a different dyno to rate their power vs TRD or they run a more agressive tune which will hurt reliability.
A dealer installed TRD retained the balance of your warranty, up to 120k miles if you got the extended warrany. Pretty sure Magnuson doesn't have to deal with that and may be using a more agressive tune. The torque is the same, which is what you want for towing. Personally i prefer the TRD tune for the added knowledge that it is Toyota warranteed. But then i also have never use the full 500hp, never had to floor it to pass a car on the freeway while towing or unladen.

It’s due to the fact that you can tune the valve tuning on our trucks.

The valve overlap that is tuned into our trucks by Toyota is awesome when you’re naturally aspirated. But when supercharged you lose a little boost thru the exhaust valve.

Magnusson closes the exhaust valve a little longer. It’s nothing that will hurt reliability.

It’s similar to installing a blower cam into a motor that had a supercharger added to it. Same boost. Just now the engine ingests the boost more efficiently.

Just to add....one of my favorite parts of the Magnuson SC is I don’t have to floor it to feel it....just enough throttle and it’s there. Love it. Makes the truck feel light and full of energy.

Considering it was a magnuson question and magnuson provides people an easy way to contact and ask them directly for an accurate answer seemed smart... but I mean going to the source for info is probably silly  I know. Asking in a forum instead where you could get good info or you could get something completely inaccurate is a better way to go.

Maybe getting the info from magnuson THEN making a thread with said accurate info to educate the forum members would’ve been a cool idea. No, wait, that would’ve taken more effort. Bad idea

The answer that Keith (Dirty Deeds) gave is exactly what I was looking for. I hate to tell ya, but just because a manufacturer gives you an answer doesn’t mean that it is TRUE or accurate! Look at all the people on here that have bought items and ended up hating it because of on going issues or little glitches in programming or something else. For example there are a hand full of programmers for our trucks on this forum but there are only a couple that everyone reccommends.

Get over it or better yet don’t respond to what you call a “stupid forum question!” That wouldn’t be a stupid idea!

Have you never bought something because the manufacturer said, “we are the best...buy us” and come to find out they SUCK! That is what a forum is for is to help each other not make the same bad mistake!

Did I say it was a stupid question? No I implied it was lazy to just make a thread instead of getting accurate information from the source. And you already have a supercharger... so why would you get a magnuson. And if tuning is the only difference exactly what do you think magnuson would have told you differently? There’s literally hundreds and hundreds of threads about the same topics here because nobody can bother to use the search button or spend 15 minutes trying to find something out for themselves.

Okay...my bad! But I DID NOT or WAS NOT implying that I was going to buy a Magnuson! Does it say anywhere that I was going to buy one, and what if I was? If I have 6k to add additional 50hp what the heck does it matter to you? I haven’t seen another post like this and I had been absent for a while. Like I said, If you dont like someone’s post then don’t waste your time being a DICK writing a stupid ignorant reply!

Assuming your profile is correct, technically you already have a Magnuson SC.;)

Yes, I know that. I am aware that it is a Magnuson, but I was wondering how they get an additional 50hp out of their Magnuson branded SC.

I think they added the extra 50hp because Toyota stopped selling them.

I didn’t take your comment wrong...I didn’t mean to be rude with my reply. My wheels and tires are - 35” Toyo RT’s and Fuel 2 piece Hostage wheels. I don’t remember the offset or anything. Sorry!

    Thank you for the compliment!

35's....that figures why they look so good. I'm not going to go that big. Waiting on the next round of Rays and will go 295. My stock tires look pretty sad right now but I'm making do.

50hp is sort of a mute point. In normal driving with all the nannies enabled i can't floor it without VSA kicking in under 30mph and like i said earlier, i have never 'needed' to floor it while passing on the freeway. Would i like another 50hp? Not sure, even if the power comes from closing the exhaust valve early it's really not mimicking a blower cam. The duration is the same, so closing early to gain more boost but closing later (what long term effect does this have?)
Part throttle is where i enjoy the increased torque, no need to downshift to get into the high hp range, just let the torque move you.

However, 50hp is 50hp. Yes, I always push my pedal all the way to the floor! Speed limits in Utah on I15 most of the time is 80mph and I like to have the power to get around someone quickly! I have 2 stores that are 400 miles apart...so I like to travel a little fast.
