I have found as others have said, tire pressure is key. I run my front tires at 35 to 40 psi. The rear tires I typically run about 10 psi less than the fronts. Other than a chalk test this seems to be a good formula for me. I’m going for similar bulge of the tire front and back. The rear of the truck doesn’t have much weight on it and I find lower then recommended psi has worked for me for over 20 years. I fill them up if towing for hauling anything. The sweet spot for my truck is somewhere between 28 and 32 PSI. It helps with bed bounce and the backend kicking out over harsh bumps in the highway.

My take - compared to my friend's newer F150 (that I have driven over 1k miles) and the Ram1500 (that I drove for a month after I hit a deer with my other car), the Tundra has a more truck like ride. Don't know anything about the Chevy/GMC trucks.

The Tundra is more reliable and has higher resale value, but the ride quality lags behind the others. If you read reviews from the auto magazines, I think you'll see this is a consensus. Obviously, I'm not trashing the Tundra. I'm only stating that the people that drive all the different trucks and write the reviews all agree, and my personal experience with the 3 different trucks validates their assessment.

I don't think shimmy is normal though. It may be bad tire balance, an out of round tire, or bad alignment.

Your first tundra sounds like my first Chevrolet. I had a lot of the same issues with my first Chevrolet that you are Describing for your first tundra. This is not normal at all for a Toyota tundra. I would work with the dealer and if they won’t work with you and I would go to a different dealership and work with them. Call Toyota and talk to them about it as well. Good luck

Have the dealer road force balance the tires. You say it's not a TRD, what tires are on it right now? TRD Off Road come with michelin LTX AT2 tires.. these tires are very difficult to balance. If the truck sat on the lot a long time, one of the tires may have a seperated belt...normal balancing will not show this...demand a road force balance.

They are Michelin M/S 2 18 inch tires. By all accounts that I can find are a decent tire.
I will call Toyota national to see about getting a road force balance and report back.
    Thanks all.

My 2007 was Much smoother than my 1999 GMC Z71and this 2016 is Much smoother than my 2007. I just put AT tires on it today and it Definitly has a different feel from the stock tires in the same size...so it could be something with tires for you:notsure:

    Update:
1 - Had a Tundra owning friend drive the truck, without telling him in advance what to look for, for his impressions. He didn't think there were problems until I pointed out the vibrations after which he said yeah, a new truck should not feel like that. So I cannot give a lot of weight here as I had to point it out.

2 - Contacted Toyota national who are responsive. Didn't sound like they could help much and then asked me what I thought needed to be done. I said I cannot be sure but perhaps a road force test of the tires. Seems like all the Nat rep did is talk to the service manager at the stealer that I already went to before and then told me to call the same stealer back. When I called the stealer they acted like they never spoke to the National guy, but instead treated me just like any other customer, "We have an opening in a week".

3 - Well I went back to the stealer, they assigned the same mechanic to the case. As mentioned no one involved seemed to understand why I was back there. Went out on a test drive with him, could not be sure he understood the English words coming out of my mouth. I tried to point out the vibration but not sure he understood. Anyway, after many hours of wasted time, they did nothing to the truck and said all is normal. To make things worse, they said it would be ready in 30 mins. After 3 hours I finally had to call them to see if it was ready for pickup, and it was. No call? Then wife drives me to stealer to pickup. Valet guy that gets the ready vehicles for the customers, little English again, says keys are not there because being washed, and I point to my Truck parked right there. Lots of confusion at that place, which does not give a concerned customer a good feeling.

At this point I'm thinking that they have worn me down. I really hate going to the stealer for hours on end only to feel they just don't care.... at all. The communication problem is a GIANT problem. I'm not sure they understand what I am saying, and I am positive that I don't always understand what they are saying.

I just have to accept that I will own a rough riding truck, or trade it in and get a softer riding truck. I blame myself only, I test drove and bought it. My wife on the other hand is not willing to give up dealing with Toyota. She is more "unreasonable" than I am and will give them a hard time.

Next step is to get my wife in touch with Toyota national.

Will post updates when anything else happens.

I95 ? But no mention of where you are in the thread or on your profile. Try a different dealer, your warranty is with Toyota, not the dealer. Letting others know where you are might get you a reccomendation on a good dealer to work with.

My 2010 Tundra does not vibrate at all like you described. That's not normal. That's not ride quality. That's a mechanical issue.

There are some dealership I refuse to go back to. My local Toyota dealership is awesome though. You just gotta find one that you could work with.

    Good luck.

Nick T, yeah not sure where my location is these days as we are between Vero Beach FL and Rockville MD. Changes each month without notice.
I'm not cutting down on any stealer in particular, its been my experience they are all stealers. They are in the business to make money and all I want is a quality product for my hard earned cash. Since they have sold me and have my cash, I just figure this after sale stuff is a loser for them. Got it. Long term reputation does catch up eventually though.
As a side note: many years ago I bought a brand new F150 from the stealer. In the 13th month the truck caught fire under the hood and burned up. Ford basically told me to GFM... and I was on the phone all the way up the chain to Detroit. It was a disappointing multi month process with many dastardly details. Since then and forever more I will talk badly about the experience and Ford, and will never buy any product made by them. When asked, and sometimes when not asked, I will mention that Ford is junk and they treat their customers poorly. There said it.
Thanks in advance for any input you can suggest.

Not sure about other manufacturers but Toyota dealers make their money with service and selling used cars. The service department is a seperate business unit from new car sales, it is their interest to get you as a repeat customer. Find a dealer that will work with you on your problem, they will try to win you over as a repeat customer. Most dealers in metro areas have to compete with other dealers and will have superior service then a dealer that is 100 miles from another dealer. It's been over 12 years so i don't know for sure but Jack Taylor Toyota in northern VA / DC area was highly rated on service. It's not too far from Rockville, maybe give them a try.
If worst comes to worst, find a 4x4 shop that can diagnost and fix your vibration problem, if you have proof you tried to get it repaired at a dealer but they were unable to fix the problem, toyota customer care might reimburse you for the cost of repairs at the 4x4 shop.
Squeaky wheel gets plenty of grease from toyota customer care.

I will say that not all tundras are created equal. I test drove an SR5 which drove like the average pickup from the 1970s. Then I drove a PRO and could tell before getting off the lot it was the one for me.

Update. Ok, got back in touch with National. They say ok, we will talk with service manager and go with the probability of tires being the problem, will be in touch in a week. Wait a week. National calls and say I spoke with SM, that we are supposed to call him and he will direct us to tire shop that handles Michelin warranty, because they don't to that. We call SM, who doesn't act like he spoke with anyone at National, but says ok he will work it out and call us back that day. Wait for 3 hours and nothing. Call SM back and he says will be back to us later. Day goes by and nothing. Next day, we call SM early. He says ok take it a local shop, wont mention the name, and tell them it is a ride disturbance and they will see about warranty and work with Michelin. I said if they are going to do the same thing that you have done twice, will it be worth our time. He says they will do a road force and provide new tires if needed. He says talk with unnamed person that he spoke with him already. Ok, we take both vehicles to the tire shop in anticipation of work to be done. Get there and speak with the person SM told us to, acts like he knows nothing, never spoke to SM. I said do you have replacement tires if there is a problem. Nope. I said will you road force, Nope do not have that machine. I said, so you will only do the same thing, balance, that they have done twice? Yep. He says those tires are probably not the problem. There are only 2,000 miles on them. So I say ok, then if all you will do is balance them, as done twice previously, and if you do find a problem, don't have replacements anyway, why are we all wasting our time? I said will road force show a problem, if it exists, that no other method would show. He says I don't know, never worked with the machine.
So, frustration is mounting beyond what a normal person should endure. It it becoming clear that I can answer my question "why are we wasting our time" with.... they will just run me around til I go away out of shear frustration. They appear to be experienced at this kind of game, while I am just a normal guy that doesn't do this in my profession. We are not done with them yet. My wife has taken over the case and she is a bulldog. I am just going back to enjoying life.

I have a 17 Tundra SR5 and it rides great. You might try a road force balance. I had a 17 Tacoma that had terrible vibration until AmericaTires did a road force.

Just go to AmericasTires and you may solve the whole issue. They typically have road force balance machines. You may have to pay $120 bucks but it’s worth it.

My 2017 SR5 double cab rides and drives great. My wife's Tahoe on the other hand, rides like a covered wagon with triangle wheels, I hate driving or even riding in that piece of shit.

Sorry your having so much trouble. Hope the pitbull straightens them out, that's usually what it takes. You may want to bite the bullet and trade back for ford or chevy ride quality is certainly better if that's what your used to. I have been buying Toyota's for 30 years for their reliability, dependability and resale and no other reason. The stealership where I live springfield IL, sucks as well. I would never let them work on my vehicle unless warranty or recall, but you have no choice at this point. I wish you well.

ok gang just realized that I failed to enter final resolution to my , perceived, rough riding Tundra. After many visits to the local stealer without resolution, I was able to get a regional honcho to take a look.
He took the truck for 5 hours. When he finally returned to talk, he said they did not do a thing to it.
I drove off and it is soooooooo much better. So much so that I have a keeper and am very happy with it.
Sure am glad they chose to NOT fix it. LOL.

Wellllll.. since my truck has been in the shop for almost a month (someone hit me).... I have drove a Titan, an f150, and a ram. Just kept trading the trucks at the rental place to have a little fun. I still think the tundra is smoother. Mine is a 17 Crewmax. I don't feel shakes, shimmies or nothing. But maybe it is the tires. Bulges or swells in those? Change those then alignment... Who lives close to this guy... Let him drive your truck and see if he sees a difference
