    2008.....

I could just run the wires, but since it's prewired, I thought it would be nice just to splice into existing wiring. Has anyone done this?

Also, it would seem that reverse doesn't send power to the existing harness, so has anyone found an easy reverse power source under there? After that, what wires would I splice to in the harness to connect camera to the wires in the overhead area above the mirror?

Ok, so I see the harness that goes up to the brakes, so I got reverse power from there. Now just to figure out which wires to splice for sending the camera signal.

I got frustrated with tracing the pre-wired harness and just ran a new wire, so I can't help there. I found out later that some trim levels terminate the wiring in the P side kick panel at a connector and don't continue up to the mirror. You're right on the reverse power, pull a tail light and tap into the reverse light.

Did you just run the wire loose or did you open up one of those plastic wire run tubes?

I ran it loose. Best I remember I did piggyback on a harness part way. Also kept it tucked up out of the way above the frame.

Update: .after opening up the overhead consul and noting that the harness wires there didn't match the wires under the truck, I decided just to run the wire separate. It was way easier than I had anticipated. For those looking to do the same, I chased the wiring tube under the truck and into the engine bay, where I brought the wire through the firewall access (where all the other wires come through). It's a straight shot from there to the trim, where it can be concealed up the the overhead consul. Everything is working great. Pics to follow.

Do you mean wire looms? They are great for protecting cables, wrap them with electrical tapes for added protection.

20180317_101041.jpg The original factory connect is on the right of this pic and the tail light connector is on the left. Just drove on wet gravel, so it's filthy!

Close up of tail light connection. The black and white is the ground and the blue and red is reverse power. Of course I wrapped it all after this pic.

This is the firewall access hole.

Wired through the overhead and to the new mirror. This is just a cheap Auto-Vox system for reference.

I originally wanted the handle one, but got scared off when a reviewer suggested the aftermarket wasn't as good as the OEM handle . I didn't want to pay oem prices, so I went with the separate camera by the license plate. I may end up changing the location, but that's where it's meant to go.

There is an after market camera that installs in the OEM tailgate handle. The company provides the correct drill bit to do the job. It was a simple install and the quality is great. About $30 from Amazon.

Nice pics. I ordered from Amazon as well and should be attempting to install over the weekend.

This is the firewall access hole.

To get the camera wire through the firewall access hole, can you help me out with this? Did you have to drill a separate hole, or were able to force the camera wire along side the existing wires?

I used the drivers side harness but they are very similar, you can run your wire through the nipple at the top of the all the wires. This is what I did for my front cam.
