THIS ^^^^...Some folks here knock the "wet" K&N.."Oh..it may mess up my MAF". BULLSHIT! Not rocket science applying the proper amount of oil. Just sayin.

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
S&B All the way if you're looking for cai.
As other's have mentioned, they're used in a few military applications. Good enough for our boys, that's a + for me.

Couple of points to keep in mind, especially if you go with an oiled filter. This WILL help mpgs, albeit slight.
    - Clean every oil change
    - Don't over oil after cleaning and let it set/soak the fibers a few hours before reinstalling to be sure it's not on to heavy. Personally, only oil from the outside of the filter.
    - Get a can of CRC Mass Air-flow sensor cleaner and spray the MAFS down real good (in the direction of the airflow)
    *Disassembly is real easy/simple.

IF...CAI's add any hps, it's minimal. The facts are that electronic controlled fuel injection is going to manage the airflow allowed in. In theory, 'cold air' being more dense would mean more O2. But without a way to force or compress more air (i.e., sc/turbos) the draw of the intake it going to be relatively the same, no matter the airbox/filter. If the engine doesn't get enough air, you'll no pretty quick.
The only other caveat is having something like a ram-air that gives plenty of air to the filter, so the 'draw' from the filter box to the intake is not as labored.
The air inlet for most of the cai's (TRD, S&B) come from the fender well, which has little to no 'ram air' qualities.
While the K&N is an open design and you can take the clear top off the S&B, all it really does it add to the sound...and let the filter possibly draw hot air from the engine.

Sorry for the data dump. Are cai's cool, yes. Necessary...debatable.

+1, don't buy in to claims of better MPGs and power. My experience with a dirty filter is yes you lose some high end power but never a drop in MPGs.

All CAI HP claims are almost always 99.999999% at 5500 rpms+. The Uber Glampers might get the HP gains since they play at high speed wheeling. More important to them would be the best filtration for the $$$

    Thats awesome!
It sounds like the updates are fairly minimal, but if its enough for them to do a redesign, the changes must be worth it.
