Awesome towing pictures....I've been towing with Toyota Trucks for 10-years and haven't had a single transmission issue. (And the Firestone airbags are mandatory if you're towing over 5,000 pounds...imho)

Just got the truck a month ago, so I haven't done much towing yet, but I took my bay boat out last weekend. This thing hauls the mail! My last truck was lifted, so I've gotta get a hitch without the 3" drop lol. Looking forward to trying it with the other boat next weekend :cheers:IMG_4968.jpg

I saw earlier in this thread there was some discussion of tow/haul mode. Is there a certain weight I should be towing before concerning myself with using this feature? I'm in Florida on completely flat ground. My bay boat weighs in around 5,000 pounds fully fueled, and the other boat is about 2,800 pounds. Should I be using tow/haul mode for either of these? I looked in the owners manual and it doesn't specify.

I’d say yes tow/haul mode for the 5000lbs one. The 2800lbs should be ok with no tow/haul mode if its flat like you say it is. But I’m sure someone will chime in and confirm that.

I know this is s few months old but if you went to the scales I’d be curious what you weighed in at we have a Winnie 2500fl that’s on the same chassis size & dimensions are pretty much the same. Haven’t towed yet with the tundra. Only had it a couple weeks

I spent a few hours at a scale dialing in my Equalizer. It made a big difference in the trucks handling while towing the TT. Wasn’t awful before, but now other than the slower acceleration, the truck feels about the same as no trailer. Getting weight back on the front axle is key. From the dealer they hadn’t set up enough WD in the hitch. The P3 was also a huge braking improvement over the factory controller. I’m really happy with the current setup. It’s easy to drive.

Here’s my weights after adjustments. My truck is a 2017 DC Limited 4x4 with added sway bar, running boards, bed liner and vinyl tonneau, gas tank was full, my 180 lb and a few tools I keep in the truck were the only cargo. Hitch with bars is 72 lbs and stayed on the truck weighed by itself. Stock Michelin tires at 40 psi front 45 psi rear. Water tanks were empty in the trailer but it is ‘moved in’ with full propane, kitchen stuff, linens, etc. The tongue weight is high but I think it’s how the trailer is built because there’s very little in my front storage. Trailer is level hitched.

Truck alone: FA 3540, RA 2632
W/trailer, WD bars not attached: FA 3140, RA 3992, trailer axles 4808
W/trailer and WD bars: FA 3540, RA 3352, trailer axles 5048

So my truck is 6172, trailer is 5768, and tongue weight is 960. WD takes 640 lb off rear axle and puts 400 of that to the front axle and 240 back to the trailer bringing front back to its no-trailer weight.

We just spent a week of spring break in it and love this camper. Enjoy yours!

Post adjustment pic. Not the best lighting.

Thanks for the info. We bought the camper last year but towed with an f150. The tundra is new this spring but haven’t set anything up yet.

Now that’s how you set up a WDH.

My hat is off to you. :hattip:Well done.

Pretty sad the RV service department didn’t get it right...common issue. With the Hitch set up properly, this saves on fuel, tires, and you don’t arrive just flat out tired.

Thanks. It was half a day and $18 well spent. $12 for the first weigh and $2 each for 3 re-weighs. It was a little intimidating figuring out the process at the scale at first but was actually no problem. I wanted it as safe and easy to drive as possible. My gas mileage towing did also improve from 9 to 10.

That is a good savings in fuel economy. For me, that would be around 375.00 per year. Not bad for making some adjustments. Now factor in tire wear and safety, priceless.

Last year on our final camping trip, we had just horrible crosswinds for around 5000 miles. No way to get around the sway one gets in those conditions. It was so bad in some places, the ol’ Duramax could only do 60-65 mph. I was getting 9.7 mpg. After that trip, my rear axle on the TT were wiped down to the wear bars. Front axle were still ok, but could use a replacement. Tires had close to 20k on them anyway. Point being, could you imagine if I didn’t run a LDH with sway control? I probably would have needed new tires on this trip.

It's our new off road teardrop. After the last Tundras to Sedona we decided we wanted a teardrop so we can have a base camp, go offloading and come back. Using the RTT and setting up and taking down everyday was a pain so we started looking at off-road tear drops. One of our requirements was being able to mount our RTT on top of the trailer. We finally decided on a trailer that we liked but the night before we were going to finalize our quote I was watching videos on trailers and a Bear Tear Drops video popped up. I loved the look and it had the features we wanted. The best thing was that he lives about 20 minutes from us. We paid him a visit and checked out his trailers. Needless to say we bought one. He has great customer service and will build the trailer to your specs including/excluding whatever you want. Check out his website at www.bearteardrops.com Not everything he will customize is included on the site. He will use what woods you want etc. There were options for under-bed storage that we didn't opt for. It took him about 3 months to make it using locally sourced items. (We prefer to support local business when we can.) During the whole process he kept in contact with us updating us and asking us about options. He even offered to color match to my truck (as-in bring my truck in and have it "scanned" to account for fading etc. I didn't opt for this I just went with the toyota quicksand color match.) We can't wait to get her out on the trails! He has offered to take us out and break her in right but unfortunately we do not have time until after Tundras to Sedona.

That's a sweet trailer! I've been eyeing the Smitty built. For the price and what I wanna do with it the price is hard to beat.
