I understand where you're coming from. The Taco Tunes system isn't $500, It's $1,500 on sale for 500. (forgive me if my #s aren't 100% accurate.) I'm just a bit jealous of you since I'm stuck with the JBL:poking:. I'd be very tempted to go with their deal 'cause I haven't seen anything better especially in that price range.

my truck (2012) had the basic CD HU. Everything was ripped apart and Kenwood all over the place now: HU, amp, SUB, speakers. Nice solid sound now. I wish Kenwood had Car play at the time my HU was installed. I might swap it though.

It's coming in next week. A friend of mine has a shop and I got to see it in person. I was on the fence of trying to integrate with the factory HU... When I saw this, I had no more worries... This is what should be in there in the first place.

@Grimm1 Do you think your son or someone at the shop would share how its wired up? The pics show some RCA cables, and looks like some kind of blue wires on the other end if the amp. Did they have to splice wires? Run new wires from the amp to each speaker? Does it run all the speakers or just some? The sub too? Did they remove your OEM amp all together?

I'm excited to see how this actually is wired and works. It seems very simple. whereas most solutions to fixing the JBL are not simple or cheap.
I'm just happy it starting to warm up around here so I can do some sound deadening on my doors, back wall and roof. I think that alone will help out and eliminate some rattles and road noise

Its from what I'm told a bypass that is connected to the out side of the factory Amp that goes to the new Amp. So that bypass wire is what is being seen in the pictures. He made the bypass so all the speakers work the same. Only difference is the sub is hooked up directly to the new Amp.

So no splicing was done to any wires from the factory.

That is awesome. Did he have to make up this bypass wire? If he came up with a wiring schemetic and supplied the wires needed I'm sure plenty of guys here would pay for a kit. Especially knowing the sub is powered separately by the amp. Good stuff

sub'd for the answer to this. out of curiosity did any of the guys asking for the contact information to the shop actually follow through with the phone call to clear any of this up? this thread could have easily been either derailed or sticky'd by now if so.

Having the non-JBL makes for a very easy, cheap upgrade. You would be surprised at how the factory speakers sound with just a little more power. You don't need to have any stereo experience to do it yourself, and for less than $150 can have a decent sound. Just get a decent 4-channel amp with speaker level inputs, a wire harness, and an amp wire kit. Here a a couple of suggestions, but you can use what you like.

knowing what I know now I would assume he must have had some kind of harness that fit from the factory Amp to the new Amp.

Whatcha think, @Grimm1 ? C/Would your son make a schematic all the owners of 3rd gen Tundra's owners with JBL systems could follow? Would he do this for $5 each, (or $10 tops, each)?

I don't know what price would be fair, but this seems about right. I don't know how to explain but, if it's a fair price, I think you/ he could trust members on here (maybe 100's) to pay for the info, but if it's really high (more than $10 each), probably 3 guys would buy it and one would share with everyone else by PM. I'm not trying to cause trouble, just saying what I've observed after several months interacting on this site....

Can you check with your (step) son and let us know?

how about before we start offering money for what has been explained over 7 pages of thread as an unknown but "done in an hour" process we simply let the guy ask his step-son? again... many people are barraging him with questions but nobody is patiently waiting for the answers (or even reading the entire thread in the meantime ffs).
btw, paying for diy information seems ridiculous considering the basic idea most of us are on this forum for access to good, free information that simplifies the operation of the vehicle and avoids visiting a shop and hemorrhaging money... not to have answers ransomed out for $5-10 a shot.

I think its just in hopes we can find out how this is done. It could save a thousand bucks easily if we can find out how this guy did it.

absolutely and I'm completely onboard with that. I've had this truck for 3 years now and would love some resolve to the jbl's shortcomings.
however, the thread is literally 3 days old and the poor guy is getting bombarded with questions he can't answer, many of which are overlapping, and we're acting as if this information is time sensitive.
all I'm saying is we need to let the guy get the info and we can go from there.

OK guys. I took a few minutes and researched the wiring info for the 2018 Tundra w/JBL Amp.

EDITED: The original table did not show the front R/L dash speakers or the Rear Door speakers. THose speakers are wired in parallel with the associated tweeter feeds from the JBL amp. The table has been updated accordingly.

    2018 TUNDRA JBL WIRES R1.jpg

J142 is a 10-pin connector and mates with the 10-pin connector in the Metra 70-1761 harness kit. J143 is a 12-pin connector. You can get a Y adapter from Crutchfield. It's part number is CAS-TLC. Cut one of the connectors out of the "Y" and you'll have an adapter harness.. These are the same connectors I used to do my non-JBL Audio Mod.

To prepare your adapter harnesses, cut each wire in the adapter harnesses (except wire 1 and wire 5 of the 10-pin harness, J142) in the middle of the wire. DO NOT CUT Wire 1 and Wire 5 of J142. These wires need to remain intact to power the JBL Amp. See post 215 for a wiring diagram.

DISCLAIMER!!!! I pulled this data from the Toyota drawings, but I have not verified it with an actual JBL system since I don't have one. Use at your own risk! Please let me know if anyone can confirm wire colors.
