I've decided to create a build page for my recently acquired sandrail. I know what you might be thinking, 'you don't even have a build thread for your Tundra'. True, but other than changing rims n tires, I haven't really done anything with it. It's just a tow rig. I wheel my 4Runner. Hard.
So the rail I picked up is a Chenowth 4LWD 2-seater. These are the strongest sandrail frames out there. There were a lot more 4-seaters available but pricier. They're no longer produced for the public but there're still lots of early civilian and race models. Only the military gets em now!
The rail is in excellent shape. The engine is a 1915 w/ 40mm Webers. Has a Brazil case, Thing IRS, 3x3 arms w/disc brakes, 930 CVs, rebuildable rear shox in double shear... Just been cleaning it up and fixing all the previous owners "work". Picked up a couple rims for the front off of CL, new exhaust, skidplate, efan for the oil cooler. I'll update as I go. I've never owned a Type I vw before so it's been a learning process. But a fun one. So far...IMG_1942.jpgIMG_1946.jpg IMG_1943.jpgIMG_1978.jpg IMG_1979.jpgIMG_1980.jpg

    definitely interested in following this!

My best friend has built a handful of these. The latest being one with a 2.2 ecotec turbo swap and street tires. Thing hauls!

Me either! However my wife seems, shall we say, less than enthusiastic, since I was in the middle of doing an SAS on the 4rnr... o_OIMG_1885.jpgIMG_1890.jpg IMG_1898.jpgIMG_1891.jpg

I looked at one with an Ecotec but it was too much $$$! But it was sick. Future plans call for a Subaru 2.5 as I don't believe an inline 4 will fit. But that's after we take care of the frontend.

Amazon truck showed up again. Love when that happens. :) Since I'm not running front brakes there's no need for all the extra weight. Picked up these spindle mounts and studs to run the Methods I got off CL. IMG_1995.jpgIMG_1997.jpg Welds seem decent. Nice billet piece. I guess I'll find out how strong it is. :muscleflexing: Got some coatings for the header. It's in good shape other than some light surface rust. This stuff had good reviews and it wasn't too pricey so I thot I'd give it a shot. Once you spray it on, you have to run the engine for 10, 20, and 30 minute increments with corresponding cool-down times in between in order to cure the ceramic coating. IMG_2028.jpgAlso picked this Rustoleum rust remover for various small parts. Haven't gotten around to trying it yet so we'll see. IMG_2027.jpg
